'99 LS 5 speed. When I put it reverse there is a grinding noise followed by a pop. This only happens in reverse. Anybody have any ideas of what it could be? ( it happens when the car is moving in reverse)

 

Do you put it in reverse when at a complete stop, or rolling a little? If you put it in while moving, it will grind because it doesn't have a synchro. Not sure about the popping but if that's the cause then the popping is probably related.

 

no, I always shift into reverse at a complete stop. I've jacked up the car and couldn't find anything loose and also checked the cv boots and they looked fine.

 

Oh well sorry, I've never heard of that before... but bump for someone else who knows to answer
