oil
Amsoil 10w-30. You can't beat the stuff. Before Amsoil, I used to run Mobil 1. Honda motors love to drink that stuff, though. I always had to add .5-1 quart per race weekend with it, but never with the Amsoil

Castrol Syntec (full synth, black containers) 5w-30. Motul was recommended to me ahead of Castrol, but it was hard to come by. The people from whom I ordered the Motul have still not shipped it, this deep into the season.
With the Castrol, at the end of a three-day weekend and 12 20-minute sprint sessions, we still had to hold the dipstick in the sun and squint to see the oil level.
I do not have a race car. I have a DC2 K motor hybrid track car.

I am running the same stuff and I would have to agree it is a great oil.

That's where I tried to order two cases of the stuff. That was a couple months ago.
At the time they said they were out of stock for a while but they shipped the gear oil and other stuff. Perhaps I failed to express myself clearly, that I still wanted the oil.

hmm, why do you suppose your motors consumes so much mobil 1 oil and not other brands?
what are the prices per quart for agip(?), amsoil, motul, etc?
have you guys ever tried fusion oil? i dont know anyone that uses, but i seen it a few times at a local tuning shop and i know of alot of high end japanese tuners that sues it, and i found a retailer online and got curious

I use Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30, mine doesn't burn much if at any oil. Perhaps...like 1/4qt over 1000mi.
German Castrol 0w30 (the green stuff, the gold version i've not touched yet) is another good one from what i hear, very shear stable and great additives, a lot better cSt at 100C versus Mobil 1 5w30.

autozone. says european formula on the front of the bottle and made in germany on the back. the newer gold colored version isn't bad, its just that many feel that the original green colored german castrol was better. Both are still good, i've had very good results with the green GC, although, it did make the engine a tiny tiny bit more 'sluggish' the shear stableness and additive pack etc of the oil made up for that.

I get mine from Autozone.

is the german castrol botle green or is the oil itself green? haha.
and how about the new quaker state line of oils, i see alot of hype and i can see they are spending alot of money into advertisement but i really see no one using them except a few drag racers who are sponsored by them

i think i change my oil too often for it to matter. i could probably use wesson or mazola. i use mobile1, redline, or amsoil, depending on what is available. never used a drop of anything with 99k on the b16. autox though-not really pushing the car for more than 40-60 seconds at a time.
I currently run the Redline 20 weight Racing line. I've only done one race on it so I'll start a new thread with results.
Like everyone else I would burn through the Mobile 1 almost a quart for every hour on the track. With the Redline I didn't loose a drop.

It's thin, very thin compared to other 5w30's. Normally that's a pretty good thing, it means less power loss from the oil pump etc. But at high temps it's so thin it goes thru the piston rings or sloshes up the PCV easier. (at least, that's a theory). It is very thin, that's for sure.
Stock I ran 5w30 Mobil1, Turbo I switched to 15w50, then 0w40, now I'm mixing... The thinner the oil, the better flow I get to the oil cooler and the cooler the oil runs.
Check for ACEA A3 rating, no matter what. That's a very very good rule of thumb. The german castrol referenced above has it.

mobil 1 5w30 has a cSt of about 10.3 at 100C
german castrol 0w30 has a cSt of about 12.4 at 100C. So yes, mobil 1 is a bit thinner. But it doesn't necessarily 'blow by the piston rings' ive heard it has more to do with the PCV system and the 'black box' attached to the back of the motor/block.

You don't happen to have data on either at 150C or higher, do you? Track oil temps on an ITR (for example) with no oil cooler will get to about 300F.
I'd buy that most of it goes out the PCV breather.
