question about changing ignition switch and sensors
history: car was originally an auto has now been converted to 5 speed, i have been forced to change all the lock cylinders on the car bc someone got ahold of one of my keys (long story) and just to be safe i got all new lock cylinders and ignition switch from a donor car to replace on my car. heres the problem, when i turn the key to the on position the guage cluster will light up but the fuel pump will not always prime. this made me think that the main relay may be going out however i have never had this problem before. then if you do it again it will work perfectly .....kinda like 50/50 chance.
the donor car for the locks and ignition cylinder was a 5 speed and on the ignition switch of the auto cylinder (the one originally in the car)there is room that 2 extra sensors go on. im wondering if anyone knows what these sensor are for? maybe on of these is affecting things.its just too great a coincidence that it is exactly when i change the lock cylinder that the main relay starts to go out.
btw car is a 98 hatch as i stated was auto now 5 speed...donor car for lock cylinders was also an ek

it sounds like your ignition wires are making good connection. if everything lights up normal but no prime. does the check engine light come on for 2 seconds then off?
so i would isolate that to the main relay first. just remove it and look at it to see if the solders have any dry joints.
Awesome website for diagnosing ignition switch, main relay, ecu problems. Check it out for symptoms u are having.
