88 crx help
I just barley bought a 1988 crx with a 1.8 gs motor in it and a gsr trans. and im having problems it starts just fine and runs good until the check engine light comes on, usually if i drop a gear and accelerate fast. Once the check engine light comes on the throttle is unresponsive and it back fires. If i turn off the car the check engine light goes off after a while. Then it runs just fine again until the light comes on. I replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs and made sure there wasn't a vapor lock. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

u need to get the codes it is throwing
that is called safe mode or limp mode what ever u wanna call it. it is doing that cause the ecu know something is wrong. and i would say it is causeing it to run rich as hell

if your OBD-1 u dont need a scanner, just look in the ECU area and you should fine a plug that has to wires to it(brown and black).. just insert a paper clip or something into it to jumper it and it should blink the code on your check engine light in the cluster. I dont know if this workds for OBD-0 so ill let someone else chime in on that, hope this helps you man.

Does it still have the wire coming off of it to put the paper clip in? or how do you get it to where it will flash the cel code? cause his ecu has a the light on it, i just couldn't get it to flash the code....

In the engine bay, driverside, there's a little yellow thingy on the wiring. It's a rubber cover for a plug. This plug is what you jump to see your codes. Ta-da, figure out that code!
And to save time, all the codes are listed on Rywire.com's troubleshooting page.

hey i cant figure this thing out i think the guy that wired my car before i bought it when he did the motor swap for got to wire the ecu so it would show codes. But also the right O2 sensor for my motor a b18 out of a gs has four wires, but the harness and O2 sensor in a 88 honda CRX only has one. Could that cause my car to go into safe mode? Which im not sure is safe mode when it randomly happens My car backfires and wont even rev up at all. I need some help my car is FUC+ED up and its so irritating
