transmission pops out of gear???
I just bought a del sol with the stock b16 in it. Everything is ok except for a missing Vss sensor. Also everytime I pop it into fifth gear and drive for about 10-20 seconds it pops out of gear. does anybody know why? could it be that the VSS is missing? please help.

Syncro is fugged.
Syncro is fugged.
Why would a synchro have anything to do with it? That's just for lining everything up and matching the two different speeds of the gears when changing gears.
Sounds to me like it's a bent/almost broken shift fork.

A friend's tranny had this issue and it had nothing to do with the shift forks, as they were still in great condition. It's probably the synchro/sleeves.

While I am sure that you're an advocate of that "JDM Knowledge" You are still wrong.

Whoops... I had the wrong terminology. *Blushes*
Bense is correct. 'Dogteeth.' Due to the material they have the ability to round off very easily. I figured the synchro and the dogteeth would be considered of the same. Broken synchro springs do weird **** too.

this is a simple fix. check your tranny fluid i am willing to bet it is low.i found out the hard way when a b series tranny is low on fluid it will pop out of fifth.
ok i will check the fluid... i just bought the car and found out that the vss was missing. i replaced the vss right away but didnt add trans fluid. probably when i drove it home some of the trans fluid left the tranny thus causing fifth to pop out. im going to check now
