NASA / SCCA
I have been very interested in autocross for the past few years. Unfortunately, I have been lazy so I haven't taken any steps to get myself educated enough to start racing my car. I want to know what you prefer, SCCA or NASA? I have been reading threads on this forum for a while and I have seen a lot about Honda Challenge. What exactly is this? Is Honda Challenge specific to NASA or SCCA members or can I keep an eye out for an event and check in (assuming I have the right safety equipment, and mods to enter)
I drive a DC2 hybrid so would that make me H1? I have asked a lot of questions and I know you guys can help!!
I just want some feedback as to where I should start
Thanks in advance

Depends on where you live. In the Northwest, ICSCC is the big road racing group for the most part. In other parts of the county NASA and SCCA have big presences. Many folks here are members of both.

Honda Challenge is a NASA series (and also ICSCC for H1 and H4). Rules, etc. at
http://www.hondachallenge.com
It is popular (in my opinon) because of fairly good parity between cars and also the rules are a bit more flexible than some of the more 'traditional' classes. It is designed specifically for Hondas and the parts/upgrades that are available for them. Running a DC2 Hybrid can bit harder to find a place to run (competitively), but it will slot right into H1.

Honda Challenge is specific to NASA. You will need to read and become very familiar with the rulebook pertaining to allowable modifications, weight of your car with driver, safety devices, and licensing procedures. There is a very active Northern California Honda Challenge contingent and many of them are also active on Honda Tech. Anyways, check this link for rules for Honda Challenge:

Don't listen to what we have to say about which club we like better - attend some of the events as a spectator and make your own judgement. Some people prefer NASA, some prefer SCCA.
If you decide to build a car (you can buy one cheaper!), my recommendation is you build it so that it can fit into SCCA and NASA. Even if you only run with one of these clubs, if you ever want to sell the car, your market will be that much larger. Being able to run with either club is a very good thing.
My personal preference for classes is NASA's H4 (SCCA ITA) or H5 (SCCA ITB).
Go to an autocross and attend some club racing events. But becareful, once you start, you won't want to stop.

We can ALL agree on that!

ban ibtl omg!

Hey OP,
You're in Sacremento? I'm sure there are multiple SCCA autocrosses in your region, and probably some other regional clubs. NASA doesn't do autocrossing nearly as often. In terms of competitiveness, SCCA is the place to be.
Autocross is also known as Solo2 in SCCA.
Start here:
http://www.solo2.com/ <-- California Sports Car Club Solo2 site
http://www.solo2.com/calendar.asp
^^ there's a Solo2 school July 29/30, that'd be a good place to start.
Good luck,
Chris

If you want to check out an SCCA Solo2 event, there's an autocross coming up on July 29 & 30 in Stockton. The Sacramento region runs at the San Joaquin Fairgrounds. I'll be there on the 29th. Check out http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Sacramento for more information. Also check out http://www.sfrscca.org for even more events in different types of racing.
I'm not sure what class you'd be in, if you decided to run. I'm just getting into it myself and have only gone to four events. You're more than welcome to spectate from the sides...alot of people do. Bring an umbrella or a canopy and a seat. It gets too hot.
