Default question about adding timing, max tq and other related items

well i noticed that my vtec timing map has a lot of retard around 5000rpms (im using uberdata).

im assuming this is to pull timing at max tq to avoid knock at peak cyl pressures.

well my car doesnt make max tq until around 6k. would it be alright to add timing back in the 5k range??? maybe help with spool and area under the tq curve?

currently im running about 10* at 5k, 14* at 5700, 15* at 6k(max tq) and 16.25 at 8k.

motor is a sleeved lsvtec, gsr cams, t3 60-1

well at peak torque you are generally at your riskyest (sp?) spot for detonation to occur...this is where peak cylinder pressures are...

so in lower RPMs, yes I would add a little timing and ramp is down towards peak torque and then ramp it back up and lean out the fuel after peak torque to carry it further

xenocron, solid advice man.

i think my timing maps are the way they are with the retard based off an n/a motor, but my turbo raises the powerband and tq potential, thereby changing what the motor needs/produces in timing etc.

Yes def...if you are basing your basemap off the stock maps, then you are certainly correct.
