Default Oil leak again?

Had a minor oil leak...took off all the pre-oil pump parts (strainer, pan, etc etc) and took the pump off...replaced the o-ring, as well as the paper gasket between the strainer and the pump and put on the high-temp liquid gasket crap when putting it back on, and all bolts were put on pretty tight. Everything re-assembled and I set the timing belt on and I've been trying to set the timing, but as the engine's turning it's almost like it's pumping oil out of the engine right there at the pump. It doesn't appear to be coming from the ring around the crank because oil is managing to get on top of that lip from the block that seals to the oil pan gasket

Forgot my main question...

Is it possible those gears from the oil pump were put on backwards? The pump itself was not disassembled...but I'm wondering if maybe that gear that slides onto the crank was maybe turned? Please help...been out of a car for 2 weeks waiting for parts here and there...

You have to torque the oil pump bolts down, dont muscle them. From what i recall, the torque spec is fairly low. Also, did you let the silicone cure? Did u replace the main seal? When installing oil pumps, i ONLY use Hondabond. Get a picture of where its exactly leaking from.

I'll run down for a picture in just a moment.

I used AutoZone's high-temp RV silicon liquid gasket, I figured it would be just as good, it comes pretty-well recommended...

Yes, the main seal was replaced. It doesn't appear the oil is leaking from that port though...

I could fit my torque wrench in there, so I turned until it was snug.

Feel free to advise while I go get these pictures...

Waiting for pictures to upload...

I don't think I allowed it to cure on the pump (liquid gasket). It says apply, finger tighten screws, cure 1hour, then torque.

I never let it cure. But even still I wouldn't think it would leak as much as it did! Pictures of leak coming as well...damn mobil 1 for being expensive.

Looks like its leaking a lot. Judging from the pics, it looks like the part where the O ring seal goes. I know u said u put a new O ring on, but do u think its possible that it fell out of its groove when u went to install the pump?

Remove the lower timing belt cover and see what u see. Its really tough to tell when the cover is in place. Also, i dont recall using any sealer on the O ring area. Did u use sealer there?

If i were you, I would pull the pump back off, clean ALL surfaces thoroughly, use hondabond (like 10$ a tube), replace O ring again, the main seal should be OK but maybe use a new one there too (cheap $$ seal) and let cure over night. i would only use genuine Honda seals too.

BINGO. Pulled the pump off, o-ring fell out. Although I don't think I could call it an o-ring anymore. Looked more like a twisted up rectangle...

This time I made certain the liquid gasket goes around the o-ring. According to helms, it has an exploded view with an arrow pointing to the rubber o-ring that says:

"O-ring"
"Replace"
"Apply Liquid Gasket"

I'm letting the liquid gasket around the cure for the moment. I've got an hour before I'm even gonna touch anything, then I'll tighten the bolts down, liquid gasket the oil pan gasket and hand tighten. Wait an hour, then torque, then adding oil and trying again.

Hopefully, this time around, my engine will actually start. The timing belt was off during the first go round and during my work, I moved the crank. So I was trying to reset the timing belt during this whole ordeal. You don't think off-timing could have been the culprit, do you?

Culprit for the oil leak? No.

I still think you should have used Hondabond. It works the first time, everytime .
