Default Weird noise from timing belt. Recording included

I installed my adjustable cam gears the other day and it started making a weird noise. I opened it back up and it looked like it might be rubbing on the valve cover, so I cut it (needed to anyway). I took it out and it still makes the noise. I check while it was running and it wasn't rubbing anywhere I could see. Anyone know what could be making the noise?

Sounds like the timing belt is too tight.

Adjustable cam gears have a tendency to rub the inner cover. The black cover that sits between the cams & head.

Your options are to remove the inner cover, or just to live with the noise for awhile, then the noise will go away after the adjustable gears have worn away enough of the inner cover.

Well, as far as I can see, it's not rubbing the inner cover, but it is very very close, so maybe. As for the belt, it has the same tension as it's had since it was changed in December and it's never made this noise before

It's usually just a very minor amount of rubbing caused by the adjustable cam gear bolts rubbing the inner cover. That's why it's something you could just let work itself out.

To determine if it is the cover you could try pushing on it while the car is running to see if it changes the noise characteristics. However you can't hold me liable should anything go wrong (lose a finger, etc.).

I was looking in the wrong spot. I thought you meant that because the gear was wider, the edge of it was rubbing. I checked behind the screws and there are some on and off scratches, which would explain why the sound isn't consistent. Unless there are any other suggestions for things to check, I'll go ahead and believe it's the bolts

I read a DIY write up not to long ago on changing the bolts on the cam gears so you dont get rubbing, dont have to cut the VC and timing piece for more of a stealth look. Maybe someone can post the link if they think its relevant.
