Headlight bulbs?
i just finished my DIY black housing headlights for my 6th gen and now i need some new bulbs to go in.......i have been looking around and have searched on here but havent had any luck for any info on sylvania silverstars? are they any good? and if anybody has had any how do they look and last?.......and if anyone else knows a good bulb that is affordable and performs well let me know......id like to get some piaas.....but dont know if i wanna drop 120 bucks or so for some headlight bulbs right now.....
Silverstars and PIAAs are a little bit whiter and perhaps somewhat brighter than stock bulbs but they are very expensive compared to regular bulbs. When you consider the fact that they burn out very often (every three months) it really isn't worth the money or trouble of having to replace your bulbs all the time in my opinion.
White doesnt mean anything. Usually it means it has a coating that actually lowers the light output. HiR bulbs, GE Nighthawks, Philips xTravision, etc, are all good bulbs if you're looking for better brighter output.
I got a set of Nighthawks from WalMart for 25 bucks...pretty much as good as the HiRs I used to have on it.

Are you kidding? I have had the same bulbs in my car for like 4 years.

Thanks, I meant I've had the same pair of bulbs in my car for 4 years. It's funny because last May I bought an 05 Chevy Trailblazer and had to replace a fog light last month. Call me cheap but I was not happy, for 8 bucks a pop they need to last longer than a year.
Chevy
Don't get me wrong. I love my truck but I can't afford to replace bulbs every other month.

yeah should last longer than that......i think i might invest in 2 pair after i get my springs on......but until then not spendin any money....
You could always put in a Xenon kit but you run the risk of glare. I have the 4300K kit in mine, completely plug and play. $200. They have a VERY slight tint of blue but not enough to bother me. I may go with 5000K when these bulbs burn out (if they ever do...lol) and a 3000K set for my fogs.
If the gen 6 uses 9005/9006 capsules, then look into 9011/9012 HIR units as a worthwhile upgrade for the price of Silverstars. The 9011s are approaching HID lumen output.
This guy, http://hirheadlights.com/ , or Dan Stern, http://www.danielsternlighting....html , (when he can deign to respond) both sell them. I've bought from both.

alright sorry bout that just didnt look in right spot.....so the 9011 and 9012 are upgrades for the 9005/9006 bulbs? hmm...sounds good might invest in some of em......
Not exactly, I believe there is a little shaving involved as is described on the website.
Personally, I used a 9011 instead of a 9012 on my low beam. All I did was the standard 9005 to 9006 modification (using a knife to cut out the inside tabs). It put out a little extra light that I enjoyed.

No, as is mentioned in the post above mine. The places that sell them won't modify them for you (they used to, but not anymore), but about 30 seconds with a dremel tool and you're good to go. If you don't have one, it's worth getting one and not just to modify your headlight bulbs.

However, 300 hours of life @ $30ea. may make some reconsider. If you go with the 9012s, you're still getting more output than modified 9005s.

Yea mine ended up lasting almost exactly a year, more than the 300 hours but I wasnt on a timer or anything
Now i'm running Nighthawks simply because I'm just waiting to sell the damned thing.
