no smoke with cat on i guess the stuff inside the cat is blocking the smoke. i have 81,xxx miles on my car. And this is my 2nd time using Castrol Full Synthetic oil on my car.

I have a couple friends who use Valvoline MaxLife. It has a higher viscosity, and is less prone to burn.

well maybe your piston rings are bad...I was using castrol syntec 5w-30 then switched to 10w-40 and it did take a bit longer to burn than the 5w-30...But when i got on the car there sometimes was a bit of smoke...Anyways since my engine rebuild i dont burn any oil so far. I am still breaking it in, but i hope it doesnt burn....everyone tells me that if i use vtec a lot my oil will be consumed

i doubt my piston rings are bad...hopefully there not....the 1st day i got my car my dad did oil change with some unknown brand oil and it didnt burn. after 3000 miles i put the 10w40 castrol oil and it didnt burn. after i installed test pipe and did oil change another 3000 miles to the castrol 10w40 it started happening after 500 miles.

dude it states it on the oil cap that it recommends 5w-30 or you could use 10w-30 for the summer.thats a pretty new motor to be runnin on some wrong oil and have a problem..WHY would you be burning oil if your engine is still 80,000 miles...probably you messed up your motor by putting that 10w-40 in thats too thick for honda's...

yes 10 w40 is too thick for most honda engines...your owners manual reccommends 5w30 or 10w30 for certain weather conditions

ok but i think thats for brand new cars so your telling me if i run thinner oil my car will run better? i mean im not possibly sure if its the oil thats burning my car or the piston rings.

i didnt say thinner oil would solve your problem...but im telling you 40weight is just going to cause added stress on moving parts and reduce your gas mileage...

and as far as 5w30 and 10w30 for brand new cars...i dunno about that...thats all i ever used on my b18b and my b18c..and none of those engines are brand new

and if you want to know if its your piston rings..do a compression test...wet and dry...if the cr goes up on the wet...yea its your rings..

you can buy the tester for about 20 bucks and do it ANYTIME you need to again in the future...or go to any mechanic shop and theyll charge you about 20 bucks to do it. I use 10w30 dino oil, no specific brand really, i just dont really mess with the synthetic stuff (own personal preference)

my b18b had about 82,000 miles on it before i hydrolocked it (never burned any oil, it leaked by the oil drain plug, but didnt burn any), before that i used 10w30 on another b18b (turbo) and that had 110,000 before it got sold, and now i have a b18c (mileage unknown right now, they claim 30k but i think thats bs, its a swap, replaced the hydrolocked motor)

Give 10-W30 a try. Try different brands out. I'm running Royal Purple 10-W30 in my '00 LS with 90k miles. Only other I ran was Mobil-1 and it burned too quickly.
