Alright I was trying to sell an A6 that I picked up that was supposedly good. Well the guy that was going to buy it wanting to do a compression test, which is fine. He went to crank the pulley(yes the correct direction) and it wouldn't crank. We even tried breaking it loose, to no avail. It would move enough to know it wasn't the water pump. We took the crank pulley off and it came off fine. Took the timing belt cover off to see if there was anything blocking it, but there wasn't.
Does anyone have any idea what could be stopping the crank from turning? I'd like to not think I was traded a POS engine.

try taking the spark plugs out and putting a couple tablespoons of marvel mystery oil in each cylinder, the only thing i could think of is the pistons are stuck to the cylinders, or there is something in the valve cover preventing the cam from turning

ALright I will pull the valve cover off and look, I am thinking there is probably rust buildup, b/c it looks like the engine sat outside for awhile. I just hope the engine isn't wasted.
I Had the same problem what had happen was the motor was outside
for so long the rings actually rusted to the cylinder walls so it would only turn for a bit but when it would hit the rust ring it wouldnt turn i used a pry bar and everything, i had to take the oilpan off and spray wd40 from the bottom to loosen up the rust then it spun perfectly, installed it and ran like a champ.
