i just installed a V2 AEM intake into my gsr but sometimes when i hit the gas theres a whistle/high pitched noise im just wondering if thats normal.

Does it on my civic and friends CRX so i guess its normal. Just tell the girls its your turbo spoolin up.

You'll get that, although i have noticed mine alot more when my ac is on!

 

I dont get why A/C would effect the whistle, its just sucking the right amount of air for a sound to be made...

 

its the throttle plate at its natural frequency....its always ther but the intake just made it audible

If i'm not mistaken it's the airflow going around the butterfly in the throttle body. The intake makes it more audible as said above

 

LOL! I remember people saying it sounded like a BOV!

 

mine whistles really bad. i got a b18c5 with blox intake manifold and aem cold air, and stock throttle body and when i press the gas 15% it whistles the whole time. when its full throttle or driving normal it doesn't whistle.

 

definately normal bro. now you can step up and move onto boost

 

yep, the whistle is normal, but I think the noise is anooying, i have a skunk 2 intake manifold and the noise got even louder kinda like the guy with the b18c5 and his blox, when i give it little throttle it whistles, but ya its normal

 

The reason you cant normally hear it is koz the standard intake pipe and filter are too restricting and long, with bends all over! When ya put a short ram and K&N on like mine its not as muffled making it alot louder.
You'd also notice if your car was turbo with a standard BOV dumping excess air back into the intake turbine it will blast back out the filter like a real BOV. I tried it n it really works lol

 

how does the aem v2 cold air work? nice sound and does it pull good top end?

 

hehe, i was wondering where that whistle went, i just took off my coldair and put a short ram with k&n filter....has anyone noticed a difference in performance downgrading to short ram?....because i didnt....

 

yup that noise is normal i get it all the time in my ls vtec integra when im about 20% throttle but the sound is nice

the real question you should be asking is has anyone noticed a difference over stock...because there isnt much..cold air..short ram..all just a bunch of noise that makes ppl think they are traveling at 3x10^8 m/s

yeah, does your AEM intake make a really loud PSSST sound when you let up off the gas? I threw a couple squirrels up in the intake and it makes all kinds of sounds now.

yea i really like it except the whistle that pisses me off to no end. i feel like it added a little power all across my powerband. SOME not alot, but considering i got it from HT for 160 i feel like i got a good deal. soundwise it sounds strong and deep but i do hate the amount of noise the intake adds to my car, can hardly hear the radio.

 

it really depends on the type of intake u have. Most cai's have a deep whistle during idle. But u cant really hear it when u hit the throttle. For sri's, there is sometimes a high pitched whistle that is a lil annoying. My friend has a generic sri and it whistles every time he hits the gas. It bugs the hell outta me. Lol! I had the A'PEXi Power Intake filter w/ 3in. it didnt whistle. All u can hear is the suckin of the air like a vacuum. It was awesome!
