Most likely its your speed sensor, this happened on my old beater 97 ford taurus. Pretty easy to change on that car, but not sure about a dc5?

Definitely get it checked out though and good luck

Is the engine actually jumping in RPMs or is it just the tachometer?

Take it to a dealer to check out. For clutch slipage get on the road abotu 20mph, toss it in 4th gear and gas it. If the rpms go up but you are getting no power to the wheels, then the clutch is gone.

If its just ... skipping rpm ranges then there is another issue. Is there a CEL or anything like that?

Is it only in 3rd gear or all of them. If it's all the gears, then it might be the clutch.
