Default problem with fog lights

posting for a friend...

the car is a 93 coupe and the foglights are ebay ones which were working just fine. the switch began to stick so my friend got a new one and plugged it in and the fog lights wont turn on. we replaced the relay and still nothing. the relay has 4 wires: battery +, ground, power to the lights, and one that goes to the switch. i used a volt meter and there was 12 volts from the battery power to ground. there is no power from either the switch wire to the ground or the power for the lights to the ground. we bypassed the relay by just connecting the battery to the fog light power and the fog lights worked. we also bypassed the switch by grounding the wire that led to it, which didnt work. the switch is new and the wiring leading into it wasnt touched. is there anything else we can check? any one every had this happen?

Was the switch you bought made for that kit or is it an OEM one? Because the wires on the plugs to the switch for the ebay one could be different from the OEM switch.

I would try testing the voltage from the switch to the relay, and ALSO the power lead from the battery to the relay. I'm assuming the power wire from the battery to the relay is working. Make sure theres power from the switch to the relay. If that's also working, try switching the relay.

Good luck!

the original switch came with the kit, the one he bought was an oem one. he tried plugging the old one back in and they still didnt work. i think the problem is the relay but we bought a brand new one, 12V 30 amp which is what the original one was, and it still didnt work.

theres no power from the switch the relay. nothing coming out of the relay has power. we changed the relay once, i guess we just got unlucky and got a bad one. heres how i check the power, someone let me know if i did anything wrong here:

1 2
3 4
1 - battery 2 - ground
3 - to switch 4 - to lights

power from 1 to 2 - 12V
power from 3 to 2 - 0V
power from 4 to 2 - 0V

i also tested the ground and power on the clip that actually plugs into the foglights and got 0V.

i still think its some how the relay but i dont think my friend wants to buy another one unless we can figure out for sure that thats the problem.

theres an inline fuse from the battery before the relay, rated for 30 amps and its not blowing
