Default OT: Tuning a stock motor for MAXIMUM gas mileage?

I posted this here because almost all of the users of this forum run a chipped ECU, and have tuning or some sort done to their motors via Crome/Hondata/AEM, etc.

I'm possibly picking up a 91 civic LX 4-door for a beater, and it's got a stock D16Z6 and P06 ECU.

I'm interested in chipping it to P28 specs, and tuning it on Crome for maximum gas mileage (i.e., slightly leaner than what Honda set the ECU at).

Is it possible to do that? I do NOT care about performance at all, I just want ~40-45mpg. My turbo GSR setup will take care of the "performance" aspect.

So what would the target A/F values be for a stock N/A D16Z6?

Ballpark figures I mean

On my sohc turbo I had a wideband in the car and ran 15-16:1 AFRs at cruise, I pulled 40 mpg on the highway pretty often. This was done on Uberdata.

Lean AFR + ignition advance + knock detection device. Probably in the 15.5-16.5:1 range as far as AFR goes. Ignition advance is mainly used because as you lean the mixture out, your burn time gets slower and slower, so you need to start the ignition earlier to get a complete burn. Knock detection device is mainly used to keep your motor alive while doing this.

My motor never knocked, when it was cold it used to run 17-18:1 AFRs because I was in open loop and it didn't richen itself up for the cold air. It would hesitate when it was that lean but never knocked.

I have tuned several bseries n/a motors with bolt ons to make 30-33 mpg driven daily in the city/highway

One was my friend drew's b18c1 in a cx hatch which runs 13.80s on street tires and does 30 mpg
