Is my car legal?
I'm questioning whether my exhaust is legal, i went to a muffler shop in town, got some new 2.25 piping and a cheap ebay muffler, it looks great and it's also fairly loud. Is it legal? What kind of exhausts are legal? Thanks for the help guys.

But no one in law enforcement seems to care about loud exhaust in tx.

Is the greddy thing true. How do I go about saying that it is legal. I am currently living in CA and got an exaust ticket. The actuall ticket is for being to loud wich is not possible unless I was really gunning it but I was not.
If it has carb exempt plate or sticker, you should be fine. But if there is none, well then I think you know the awnser! In CA...if it's other then stock you are still fucked, if the COP wants to be a homo!

If it does not look and sounds stock you are screwed. I had my exhuaust on for a couple of years before I got poped, but I knew it was going to happen at some point.

I have a Greddy exhaust and I got pull over and the cop did not give a **** that I prove my exhaust is legal I have a paper from greddy that say it under 95 db and it 50 state legal. I have too take it to the Ref to db test my exhaust and it legal because the sound was under 95 db, my exhaust hit max of 87.8 db a the test of 5800 rpm so I pass. To find out if your exhaust is legal you have to db test it to find out.

just what i was going to say.......if a cop in CA see's any types of modifications on your car, they can pull you over and search your car/pop your hood. Even if your exhaust is legal (in your case, i can tell you that it is not unless the db reading is lower than 95), the cop can still be an *** and send you to state ref

I'm glad I'm legal though so I guess I should just go to the testing place. I'll have to do it when I get back in state. Blast them for wasting my time.
No greddy is not the only exhaust that is legal. Many catbacks are legal, if you have a question call the company and ask them if they're tested to be <95db.
Two that are for sure <95db: RSR ex-mag, mugen twin-loop

Everything behind the catalytic is legal, as long as you stay under the 95db limit. However, it seems that the majority of Cali cops don't know the law, or don't care, that they're supposed to enforce.
I've been told that my AEM CAI (with CARB EO stickers on it) was "an illegal charge pipe" by a cop.

I've heard this before about intakes, what is it you have to do to keep them off our backs again, besides have the stock box?

its only illegal if it messes with emissions, so if you still have a catalytic converter, then its not illegal. the only other way it would be illegal is if its too loud. over a certain decibel level is concidered "disturbing the peace"
you guys gotta help me then if this aint legal, I bought a n1 style exhaust form ebay ( looks very nice ), and I think it is under 93 db, if a cop pulls me over for being too loud, cant i slap on my stock exhaust and say this exhaust was on the hole time, and if i get a ref ticket I can put stock one on and pass right? Then keep the ticket forever and show all other officers?

What happens is that you can change the exhaust and go and have it reffed (and pass), but you will pay the ticket for when the cop pulled you over (sometimes they even take a picture). After that, I think that you can show cops that you've been reffed and they can't do ****. This is what I've heard; somebody please clarify this.
I got pulled over because I was in the car pool lane 2 min. after it started (7:02) and the cop took pictures of my turbo, wastegate, BOV, and piping, so there's really no way I can say that it was stock the whole time. So now I am having it reffed; I just got all the stock parts that I need. The funny part is that I thought that I wouldn't get harrassed because my car looks like a stock GS-R except exhaust and intercooler if you really look.
