B18b redline, help noob

Default B18b redline, help noob

could someone tell me the redline of the B18b? im considering this swap into an ek hatch but wondering if its worth it. if there is already a thread about this please point me in the right direction.
what would i need to be able to rev higher? can anyone recommend where i can get all the internals to prepare my car for pounds an pounds of boost?

rev higher or u want to hold onto boost?

It's BASICALLY like this...if u want endurance for ur boost, u have to build the bottom end (pistons, rods, bearings, crank, I'd even pop on a lightweight flywheel), if u want to be able to REV more then you build teh valves, valve springs/retainers (the valve train), camshafts, camgears, etc. and you also need a good tune with building the upper end (on a DOHC like this LS anyways)..

Like me, when I prep for turbo (big "when", may even "if") I'm just gonna build the bottom end and keep the same redline O.o

And like that dude said...6.8K redline...

thanks, i basically want this car to be a daily driver... with a kick. but getting to 8k rpm is a dream of mine...

if redlining at 8k is your dream get a d series engine
they redline at what 7400? hell u could change the rev limit to 8k
i dont think itll be reliable, but u could daily drive it if ud like

nah, i guess reliability is good in a car when you dont wanna take the bus anymore. and im not really fond of a Dseries...
what do i need to make the b18b a vtec?
car already coming with a b18b... id rather save the money i would use on that b16 and use it for the turbo..

ummm yeah or u could buy a b18c1 it revs at 82k stock. and it has one hell of a kick

the redline on a b18b may be 6800 but u can take it to 7200. done it lots in my teg. it was stock.

rev happy my friend lol. i got a boosted b18b swap and ive hit just about 75k with stock internals........ just got the engine built and cant wait to get it tuned for 20 psi!!!!! pm me if you want to buy internals cuase i got a buy who can hook you up for real cheap and the parts are top of the line

i dunno, i thought the redline was as far as it could go... thought that was the rev limiter. will a set of arp rod bolts really let me get to 9,200 rpm? and keep my car healthy? skeptical...

Well first of all you should have a motor that makes power that high, or your just kinda pissin in the wind. THe rod bolts are typically what fails in a high revving LS motor, but like I said im not sure if boost will be enough to merrit a much higher rev limit

He's right... your stock B18b motor doesnt make power that high. But getting some rod bolts would allow for you to rev 8k relatively reliable... but I think u'd be pushin it too much for 9200. i suggest you invest in a b16/b18/ITR V-tec head. and get some rod bolts. You'd be making constant power, and your shift points would be anywhere from 8100-8200 RPM's.

also, even with the rod bolts, it'll still be pointless to rev up that high unless the setup is making power up to that point. not to mention the chance of floating a valve on stock valve train

just so u know revving higher wont make ur car faster if your car isnt making power up there. reving any engine past the point were it makes power is a dumb idea.

if you wanna rev that high, then get a gsr , build it and rev the **** outta it. got 2 homies with built gsr turbos putting out 388 and 380. both reving their cars to 9500 rpms. it makes power all the way there too. but if you dont have the 8k to spend on a motor then just stick with a stock LS and boost that.

yea... you wont want to rev that high unless you switch out your head like i suggested before. any DOHC Vtec head with rod bolts on ur ls will work just fine. as for reving to 9200+ i would recommend a B16 block for high reving instead of a GSR. B16 are far more reliable for high reving than any B18 due to the longer stroke on the B18. B16 heads should rev safely to 9200-9300 all day.
