with that much rust i would not pay more than $1600 myself, and that is assuming that everything else works very well.

Word bro, I live about an hour, maybe hour (yulan, NY) and a half from you..kingston's an...interesting town... In any event, though there are a lot of rusty cars here, it's not imossible to get away rust free...

My car is a '95 EX coupe with 97k, it had two slight problems cosmetically, there was a rust spot in the typical place on the rear driver's side quater..my friend got this brilliant idea to take part of my smashed up hood, cut it out, cut the rust spot out, weld the smashed up hood piece in (which was like twice as thick) and then smooth it out 'n **** and re-paint it - I'll show u a picture later today or tomorrow when I post it in the cosmetic forum, anyways, looks like there's no rust there :-P -- SO the car's virtually rust free I spose

The other thing that's wrong with it is the way the sunroof opens..when I first got it the sunroof was in DIRE need of oil'ing, so when it went u to go back (electric) it popped u only half way and started moving back..hense left a small (about 1.5 inch long on each side) scratch mark on the roof..greesed the hell outtta it, works like a charm...

With that asside, on my '94 probe which I drove from 77-85k miles (and now the guy's giving it back to me because he fried a piston ring...but whatever, brand new stereo system) only had rust on the spot where my dad wasn't aying attention and spilled fuel injector cleaner down the side and it ate away the aint instantly...think it started to rust a **** hair there...other than that, that's rust free, even when I crashed it and bent the frame...

my '01 golf GTI VR6 and the '00 jetta I sold to my dad - rust free, my '95 eclipse GSX - no rust

So my point is...if you shop around, and know what ur doin, u can get a car rust free very easily...and I'm not gonna lie about pricing, I got my eclipse for free from my ex- g/f's mom's b/f (if htat makes any sense) when he got real drunk and went into the sheriff's station with a glock .40 (my dad knows all the sheriff's well, that's why they don't write me tickets, but it still doesn't kee them off my back and any incident that happens he finds out about ) - so he felt he owed us, and him and my g/f's mom owned the car, they gave it to me, I totalled it about... iono 7 months later? Yeah, my dad felt it was best I learned hwo to drive in snow/ice so it wouldn't be a big surprise in my first snow storm...that was good 'n all, no accidents in the ice, but when the sun came out next summer I put it into a ditch doin a buck 17, guess the back wheels really couldn't keep up with the front and the back slipped out a bit..

So, aid 7k for the Jetta, the eclipse was free, I used the insurance money from the eclipse to buy the probe (so in turn that was free), I sold the jetta for 7.5k (I rebuilt a lot of the interior) and bought the GTI (mint condition, great deal on it if I do say so myself) (so in turn, that was also free)..and that's my car ownage history, I shopped around, ended u not paying much at all...and none of htem had rust....like I said the probe's starting to form rust...but that's just on the spots where it's smashed up...so rust might be on tons of cars, but that doesn't mean you have to settle for a rusty one...

As far as the car goes...I wouldn't spend more than 2.3k on it, I'd ask him 1700, if he said no, probably I'd say 2k, but that's pushing it, and 2.3k is a redline, I wouldn't pay him anymore than that...

How much are you willing to spend on a car? there are a couple of decent daily drivers around here.

i was going to offer the guy 2k and see if he will take it...it just has some body rust, not really a big deal...mechanically he said it's great...

i can spend up to 5-6k but that leaves less money for a new motorcycle or a crx sir...

try posting a "testing the waters" thread in the marketplace site... see what your offers are and then decide whether or not you'd like to sell
