I just picked up a clean 91 Civic SI yesterday. Before i bought the car, I took it for test drives and it seemed that everything was running strong. The next day, i drove it kind off agressively to see what its got, then my tranny got stuck on second gear???? I'm not able to shift gears whether the car is on or off!!!

WTF HAPPENED??? HELPP

I am guessing your car is a manual.. sounds like a shift fork is hung up in the tranny. Tranny case will probably have to be opened and get the fork unstuck or worst case new shift forks.

Might have bent broken the shift linkage. Get under the car and see if anything looks broken.

If this was the case, the shifter play would be loose. But since I've seen this happen first hand, it's not it.

He is right. My brother did this to his DX tranny. He managed to get it out of second gear and baby the tranny one. But she was never the same. It had first gear, then 3th, 4th and 5th. 2nd gear was never seen again. Since it was a DX, we picked up a whole new tranny for 35$ haha. It was easy/cheaper to do that then to take it apart and see what was wrong. But I wanted 5th gear out of it, so I took it apart anyways, and everything was a disaster in there.

See what happens when you beat up something that is REALLY old and more then likely not taken care of.

 

I went to the shop and they said that i needed a "SELECTOR" for my tranny??

He also told me that d16a6 transmissions are hard to find these days, Can i use a different transmission for my car??

Is $295 for a d16a6 tranny a good deal?
