Is it still the white wire on a 5 wire (wideband) o2 sensor?

4-wire O2
black wires - O2 heater
green - O2 signal ground
white - O2 signal

the A/F gauge uses the white wire.

5-wire O2 sensor
you can not monitor using a standard A/F gauge.

True.

The reasoning behind this is that the stock 02 sensor uses a 0-1v sensor. The wideband that I have (a techedge) uses a 0-5v sensor, effectively multiplying the spectrum that you can see by 5. With a narrowband you have a very very small window that you can actually see/use.

But it's still somewhat accurate. Not dead on, but will give you a ball park. For example, giving it WOT and the meter reading all the way green. Which is good. The standard a/f ratio gauge with a factory O2 is not completely useless. Good info though, i've had an a/f gauge sitting in the closet that i've been waiting to put in.

the problem with the OEM O2 is that anything over 14.0:1 and it's full tilt rich. So at WOT you have no idea if your at 14:1 or 10:1.

I had one for a while. I liked it in a way, I hit a spot in my map where it went lean while pushing so I let off quickly and richened it up a little in that area.
If I didn't have the gauge I wouldn't have known and who knows what would have happened over time.

I have a full time wideband now.

thanks, imma proly get a wideband when i get my swap, juswt got a stock z6 now, but i ahve invested over 4500 dollars in this car and the motor has YET to be touched. problem i have now is that the gauge is a piece i believe. the lights come on, but they start at rich, then work their way around to lean, bu none of the lights ever go out, i havent driven the car yet b/c its not done, and im not takin it out till it is, just wired everything up(jdm mirrors, gauges, jdm foglights etc) but the guage isnt working, imma go buy a new one and see if that works if it doesnt work any better when i finally drive it. thanks for your info
