Default poking a hole thru a cat converter.. good idea?

i recently passed smog in the CA using my friends new cat because my old cat is so old it doesnt pass smog anymore. my question is.. since i passed smog, i will be returning the new cat to my friend.. is it a good idea to poke a hole thru my old cat for more power gains?

It will sound like ****. Punch out the inside of the cat sell it to a scrap yard, and then put the gutted cat back on.

Overall its a bad idea but atleast you will make like 30 bucks doing it.

Why not just buy a hi-flow cat?? Help keep the air cleaner, dont have to deal with noise, and it gives the cops one less reason to medd with you.

i wouldnt do this,
however, i know here in PA a lot of vehicles have visual emission testing, so people punch their cats out and then run a piece of pipe through the cat. I've heard that just punching the cat actually doesnt create any gains beause the air then flows into that large open chamber and that creates just as much restriction as having a legit cat. Thats why you'd want to run a piece of pipe through it. Really though.. id just buy a performance cat or a test pipe.

oh yeah.. if you do punch it out, dont breathe that **** in, i hear its really horrible for your lungs, and make sure you dont leave the stuff that comes out of it out where an animal could get at it or anything, try to dispose of it in a safe way.

It created back pressure when ou gut the cat i wouldnt do that. I was also debating sticking a cat shell around a test pipe or soemthing?

gutted cat has a buzz tone, its better if a cop looks under your car, but i prefer test pipe...but in CA a ticket with no cat is $3000. friend got caught before so i would stick to your gutted cat if you dont care about the sound. oh yeah and Arizona is the same fine also. $3000 or around there.

gut the cat and make it a test pipe by running piping through it, that way it still looks like a cat. That is my plan for the future.

I heard whenever you "gap" the exhaust pipe, it is bad for the car, because the motor is very hot and then when you turn off the car and let it sit, cool air goes inside the motor and can screw things up since the internals can bend or something from the hot and cold crap, so I thin cutting a hole in the cat is bad.

also dc2rtek, if the cop pulls you over and you have a test pipe it is a 3000$ fine? Holy ****! Also if you have an exhaust pipe, can they fine you for it if it aint over 93 decibals?

But where I live, NO emissions, NO testing
All the counties around me do test thought
