Katman I need some help 1st and 2nd gen b16 differences
You mentioned this reference as a difference in years...

I dont know if you remeber, but I have the 1991 B16a2 1 million series milky white plug (all in one sentence?)
Anyway I have the "30 near my V-TEC solenoid also. Do you think its possible I have one of the rare late 1991 models with 170 horse? Im thinking so but just wanted to get your opinion. I have the J1 tranny, and can get all numbers off the head if it helps. My head is stamped PR3-1 so If it was second gen it might be stamped p30? I have never seen a second generation thats not USDM.
Feel free to email me and give me your thoughts. Montyjoe@jps.net
Thanks for any info / comments,
Monty

take your valve cover off, and look at the cam caps
if they are cast then its 1st gen, if they are machined then its a second gen (look below thats a second gen)

this is a pic right after I got it home. Its much cleaner now. Its big so Dial ups should not attempt.

Let me know what you think.
Also, cant I get a number of the pistons when I change the oil pan gasket? Just curious.
Thanks for the help,

indeed machined cam caps, 90% sure you have a 92 specs B16A, 170ps/168hp version
yes if the pistons are P30 then surely its 2nd gen.....

Looking through the baffle plate, the main bearing caps have 12 PR3 stamped on them. That means first gen right? Weird how it has that 30 next to v-tec soleniod, and the machined cam rails. I think the engine was manufactured in 1991 and was probably in an early 92 model.
Thanks for all the help, and any more thats offered,
