What size bfg dr's do you guys who need more traction run??



Here's my situation....

I have a ej1 (soon to be tuned to 350-400whp) with 15" rotas and 195/50/15 f1 gs d3's for my dd rims/tires.

I am looking for a set of drag radials for the track and occasional street use. I have neuspeed race springs and koni yellows on my car and would like to know what my options are as to tire sizes. Nuespeed race springs are listed as 485F/395R and 2.25"/2.0" drop respectively. Basically I want tires with good traction that will fit my car in its lowered state. I am not set on any particular sized rims or tires. I was thinking maybe just some 14" steelies as they are cheap, but it doesn't really matter to me. I would like the most traction possible in a dr that will fit my car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

ps - I did search and didn't find anything that matched my situation.

I checked tirerack and found they carry BFG's DR's in 205/50/14, 215/60/14 and 225/45/14.

Cliffs: Looking for largest bfg dr's that will fit an ej1 lowered 2.25" in the front in either 14" or 15" diameter (preferably 14" cause steelies are cheap) and will still be streetable.

pss - I also asked this already in the tire forum, they said to ask in the drag forum and in the drag forum no one responded. I guess my measly 350-400hp does not deserve a response.

That's not necessarily true.

I see where he's coming from. Truth is, the bigger the contact patch is, the better the traction. Normally, with bigger tires, you get a bigger contact patch.

true but when you have a massive sidewall, you can release air fron the tire and it will squat down giving you a bigger contact patch.

dont forget, althogh the tire is bigger in sidewall and has a smaller inner diameter, he's getting 225/45s which means 225 mm wide and 90 mm tall. when air is let out, it squats onto its sideall and gets a longer patch of rubber down , so it has a bigger contact patch then say a 195/50 (195 mm wide, with a 97 mm height)

also, true it's exactly why when you go to the track you lower the PSI in ur tires, so they cover more area

 

i use 225/50/15 bfg drag radials with 368 whp and they work very well

Then why do MANY drag strip guys use 13" rims w/slicks??? Why not run some dubs? Then you could get Crazy mad traction yo!!

The only reason I am considering 14" rims is due to the fact that they are inexpensive and will lower weight and allow me to increase sidewall a bit, I could run 15"s just as easily.
