Default inaccurate speedo on jdm teg..cleaned +checked vss, removed km-mph converter, reset ecu...help

iv posted this thread on other uk honda related forums and team integra but unfortunately i havnt been blessed with any helpful information.

iv done so much research everwhere possible but cant find a cure to my problem...hence iv joined honda-tech as im told theres some true honda experts here so please try to help if possible id appreciate it a lot.

here goes...

afternoon everyone.

ever since iv bought my 96 jdm SiR integra iv noticed that my speedo readout in mph wasnt quite accurate as cars would FLY past me at a camera locations when im doing 50 by rough guessing seemed like i was out by 8mph ish.

i also noticed that the speedo was a little slow to go down to 0 mph if i was breaking to a stop from 30...it almost stops half way rather then a continued smooth descent to 0 mph. this isnt a major issue and im not 2 fussed about this yet but thought id mention it to explain my problem complelely.

iv done loads of research about previous similar problems and usually they were rectified by a better quality converter. i very much doubt its my converter as i was recommended a top company for converters called import solutions and i paid £65 so its no cheapy converter
iv rang them up on several occasions and they said its VERY unlikely its there converter and they suggested its my car or my speedo. there willing to send a replacement out so before that i thought id check my speedo for accuracy working in kmph as it was supposed to;

with the converter removed, heres results i got when checked with sat nav gps

50kmph ----> 24mph on sat nav (shud b 30mph or a closer value)
80kmph ----> 42mph on sat nav (shud b 50mph or a closer value)
110kmph ----> 60mph on sat nav (shud b 70mph or a closer value)

i have 16" rotas and according to this website

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

my speedo will read 0.8% too fast...so when speedo reads 60mph im actually doing 59.5mph ... so wheels are making a MINUTEST difference but not major

i then questioned my gps so last night i checked it on ma old mans uk civic, completely bog standard of course and is pretty much flawless as hes kept it in real good nick. heres results,

30mph ----> 28mph on sat nav
50mph ----> 47mph on sat nav
70mph ----> 66mph on sat nav

above values show that sat nav is quite accurate, proving that my integra is definitly out by a fair margin. its normal to be out by 1-3mph but any more than that i cant manage with. i.e a 50mph readout when im actually doing 42mph. i live in london and theres a speed camera almost on every road not 2 mention i was penalised 2 yrs ago for doing 35mph in a 30zone. i have 7 points on my license and even though im being vigalant and extremely careful i cant live with such inaccurate speed readings.

iv had a good look at my vss as i read they get corroded over time and need cleaning. i unplugged the top part and pins and the connector itself from inside was pretty mint and clean, i then removed the big 3rd grounding bolt and gave it a good wd40 and toothbrush cleaning and reinstalled. checked speedo against gps but SAME results as listed above.

im really running out of ideas..heres a few qs;

1. can any import jdm car be converted into mph to give a VERY ACCURATE mph readout? or are they all doomed to be 4-9 mph out? isit just down to old car and its electrics or the jdm kmph system?

2. VERY important question. i read somewhere that the jdm vss is different to the uk one, so am i able to replace my vss with a new 1 from honda?

3. can i just to to honda and buy a uk itr vss, harness and wires etc and connect those to my gearbox to my speedo cluster??

my further options that i think i have;

1. change interior #15 fuse for alternator/vss and reset the ecu. i was thrown a few CEL warnings when my speedo wasnt working so this MAY help? ...UPDATE IV RESET ECU BUT SAME RESULTS

2. put my honda sir rims on with the 195/55/15/ and check speedo readout for any difference

3. someone suggested in one of my previous posts regarding speedo issues to buy a multimeter and go through the wiring from the vss to speedo to check for faults if iv type that correct... would this mean i have to rip apart my dash?

i dont want to buy a new cluster unless i HAVE to, and i dont want to open up my cluster and mess around with the needles as such. especially dont want to rip up my entire dash but if i have to then i have to.[/b]

i apologose if my post is too long.. im just trying to explain my problem in full detail whilst showing i have done some research regarding my problem.

if anyone can shed some light or throw me some ideas id really appreciate it...

omar.

only have the original vss mate. its still on the car as after an inspection it seems mint. i.e mint and clean from within inside the plug with no damage to pins.

but then again i have no way of telling if it is faulty...

anyone here can tell me if the jdm vss is the same as ukdm or usdm vss's?

what is the tire size on your 16's? i have 205/40/17's on my integra and my speedo is off 7-10 mph. try your stock rims and see what happens.
