Default H22 - H23 head swap

Guys, I searched around and couldn't find any definitive info on what is involved in swaping a VTEC H22 head onto my H23 block.

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

Mit

It's pretty involved. Besides the head and headgasket you will need the H22 water pump, water pipe, header, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, head bolts, and thermostat housing. If you run a H22 ecu then you also need a knock sensor as well. You also need to remove the oil pressure restrictor from the deck of your block; you won't need it for vtec. The tensioner is optional; if you use the H22 hydraulic tensioner then it is more prone to mechanical failure, if you use the H23 bearing style tensioner then it has very little give with the H22 head when you install the belt. I prefer the H23 tensioner because they don't fail. I think that's it.

Thanks. So if I have a H23 bottom end and a complete H22 it shouldn't be a problem? I was more concerned about any machine work I might need.

Thanks again,

Mit

You won't have any problems at all; no drilling or tapping required.
