what the hell is this rattle?
Rattling… somewhere.
So… when I drive for a little WARMED up, I get this noticeable rattle at about 2500-3500 RPMS ONLY. Before and/or after I cannot hear anything. This happens in every gear also. I’ve check inside my bay and there’s no noise leaking from that area. It’s underneath my car...
I have no heat-shields… and it doesn’t sound like a bolt is loose on my exhaust system. Can a bad resonator sound like there’s sand in there? Lol thanks.

Well if you are positive it is not your heat shield it could also be a piece of your honeycomb that came lose and is just kicking around somewhere.

i'm positive it isn't my shields because they in my basement & not on my car... because they rattled a while back and i removed them.
and what is this honeycomb you're talking about? images and a description please
thanks~!
EDiT. i'm straight piped by the way. & i know (for a fact) it isn't that rattle. it's something else.

mine does the same thing..annoying as expletive..i dont think its the heat shields..bcuz it does it at the EXACT same RPM everytime. and mine comes from around the starter/trans area..i thought it was the starter tooths hittin the flywheel..so i replaced it..but it didnt go away.

i might know what it is .........me and a buddy installed some headers on his car and just where the block meets the oilpan the header hit it and when hes around 2500-3000 rpm the vibrate causing a rattling sound that seems like a heatshield or chatter starter
look at that and see if its your prob

Word..
Yeah, that or ur muffler's hitting, that's really what it sounds like...check the muffler bearing...
No, seriously though, I had the same problem in my probe and I cannot remember what the hell I replaced to fix it...it was definately an exhaust problem...Blah, sorry I cannot be more helpful

I would be checking bolts on anything bolted to the motor. I had the same issue on my gsr swap and it ended up being loose bolt on the a/c bracket that vibrated against the block and made all kinds of noise right around the 3k rpm mark. Took me forever to find that one but well worth the time spent searching.
Well, I made sure everything is bolt down engine/transmission-wise. I’m very **** about things like that and do not like doing work twice. I even use the thread liquid so it never comes off.
I can hear the noise generating from my exhaust system but noting is loose/broken. The weird thing is, it happens louder and more often as I drive the car. I park it and no noise until I warm her up again.

The problem is between the header and the cat-back where it join together. Either the spacing is too narrow. Replace the donut thing...i forgot the name of it. It's like an o-ring .
expletive whats the word im lookin for here.
basically, everythign has a vibration point. think of a glass, ever watch mythbusters? with the right tone of voice they could vibrate the glass enough to breakit.
im guessing the same thing is applying to your exaust. the exhaust at those rpm ranges, is giving off the same frequency as the exhaust itself. so it rattles.
may you 2 have the same setups
does the car rattle only while driving? or parked to?
if so get a buddy to rev to those rpms and look whats rattling
its not easy to distinguish where a rattle is coming from inside your car trust me

rattles both parked and driving. more driving though becase i believe the heat has some influence with the rattle. i'm gutted, & i know it's not my engine bay. or @ least i hope not. i hear it from under the car.

hey i got this problem too, it kicks in at 2200 rpm. i think its my traction bar. do you have traction bars? **** if you find out what it is let me know

n3g...no traction bar. i'l figure it out by this weekend. i'll run open header for now just to see if it's generating from my engine.

I have the same problem, put my new Kamikaze header on with a test pipe and now I sound SOOOO ricey. I have a WS2 too, doesn't make any sense at all, and it's pissing me off.
This is what I do know, I need the correct gasket between the test pipe and the catback, right now I have a metal o-ring... My 2.5" collector is gigantic, and it's touching my oil pan. I'm thinking it's one of the two, I can fix the one, but I don't know how to get my collector lower.
The worst part is, it's possible that it has abosolutely nothing at all to do with anything rattling on your car. The catalytic converter is the main source of resonance on your car, without it, you get that raspy rattley note. Just like you, I'm seriously hoping that's not it.

No cat… test pipe over here. I know you get a raspy rattle when you’re straight-piped but that’s not the sound I’m hearing. It sounds like I’m vibrating … sexy.
I'm waiting for my camera to charge then I'm gonna get some sound clips... of mine. Just want to know if it sounds similar to yours.
