id get some sort of sheet metal and cut it to fit the glove box, that way u dont see the wires coming out the back of the head unit, cut out the area where ur going to mount the headunit...drill a hole in the corner of the glove box for the wires to run out so u can hook them up...once its all done, take it out...clean up the edges of the metal and the hole u cut out...paint it black or polish it if u want..and ur done

thats how id go about doing it

other then ventilation when the headunit gets hot, did they say why? cuz i see it as a good way to prevent someone breaking into ur car for ur audio equipment

sounds like a good idea to me, whos gona look in the glovebox for a stereo, you might also buy some grill cloth and put it over the speakers, so it looks like there empty, or at least you cant see the bright, sliver/red/blue ect... colors, and cover the sub if you have one

shouldnt be hard, just extend your wires, tuck them up good, and find someway to mount it in the glovebox

for that you could either make some simple straps that go over it and screw them to the glove box, or you could to by any decent auto install shop and get a under dash mounting box, there usualy for jeeps and stuff, its usualy a black plastic box that has a cutout in the front for a DIN, you could mount that upside down with the headunit in it, and it would look pretty good IMO and keep most of the random **** in the glove box out of the radio

thats EXACTLY how ricerocketdave and i installed my stereo in my classic mustang.

sorry that some of them are kind of blurry, they were taken at night after all and with a crappy camera a while back. i have a small glove box to begin with anyway, so i just did away with the whole thing, and use the center console for all that small stuff. hope that will help you with some ideas.

What kind of car are you putting it in? Also will you be mounting it on the bottom or the top?

i was thinking of doing the same thing in my 91 crx, since i found cup holders that can be installed in the head unit slot, but i adjust my volume and stuff a lot so it would get annoying to reach over there... i guess if you got one with a remote that would work, but you would have to keep it open all the time... im trying to think of a new place to put it, because it really stanks having no cup holders...

Its going in my Integra. Not quite sure, figured I would pull it all out tonight and play with it a bit to see what the most practical and cleanest way of doing it would be.

Thats actually another reason Im moving it. Because in the Integra the cupholders are almost useless because my head unit is in the way of any drinks taller than a can of soda.

thats why you buy an infrared repeater. thats what i did with my mustang. you put one eye in front of the sensor for the remote on the headunit, and then hide the other eye somewhere else in the center of the dash. that way you can use the remote to change volume, tracks, radio, etc and keep the glovebox closed.

mainly used for home entertainment centers etc, but it pretty much relocates the infrared eye somewhere so that it can pick up the remote signal. i bought mine at a local automotive stereo shop.

ok finally found one, this looks just like that one i have...

The IR-X extends the Infrared signal from any wireless remote to control products that are hidden or out of the remotes line of sight. No need to modify equipment to extend the internal remote receiver. VCR, DVD, TV tuners, stereos that are in trunks, glove box, under seats, or equipment just out of sight of wireless remote. Great for RV's, marine, custom hot rods, and many other applications.

* Easy two wire hook up.
* Extra long, 17 feet plug-in wire for IR LED
* Red LED for confirmation of operation.
* Small and easy to mount.
* 40 kHz and 56 kHz operation.
* 9-12 vdc operation.

I drilled a small hole for the wiring harness, extended the wiring harness about 1-2feet, ran it behind the console to the bottom of the glove box and mount as you so desire...I used a bracket apoxied to the glove box to keep the stereo platned(kept it fro moving from side to side...had a remote for the stero and it worked out very well...have zero pics currently..

Just buy the console for 96-98 civic,that has the cup holders with the lid that pops up..the radio slides right into the spot perfet,and you can use the cup holders too.
