Default Coolant in Intake M.

So I'm getting lots of coolant in my IM, its getting in my runners and into the combustion chamber. I'm going to replace the gasket but is there any other places for it to leak into? It's a h23a1........

Do you have a hose hooked up wrong? Like one of the IACV or FITV hoses hooked up to a vacuum port on the intake manifold.

The only other possibility I can think of is your IACV or FITV has rusted out in such a manner that allows coolant to make it into your intake Manifold.

Seems like the gasket is a common problem, also do I use that Ultra copper stuff for the gasket??

what gasket are you talking about?
there are no water passages going though the intake manifold gasket...

Not true. The H23 and the F22/23 have a water passage going in and out of the area adjacent to runner number 4. The H22 does not. See pics lower right between the EGR port and runner 4.

Top = F23
Bottom = H23

Check to see that there is no corrosion between runner 4 and that passage, make sure the gasket is in good condition and be sure that you are connecting the IACV and FITV coolant lines correctly.

If you blocked it off then you should reconsider. That has the coolant from the head go through the thermostat. You could overheat the head from a lack of circulation. You could block it off then splice into the heater core barb located just on the side of the head. Near the same location. Of course you have an H22 now don't you?

i own mutliple h22's but at the shop i used to work at we did a lot of mishmash engines as well. all were drag engines though going into a 1989 crx that weighed in around 1700lbs with the driver...
and most of them were made of just whatever used parts we had laying around.

Ok, so the new gasket is installed with the ultra copper but there is still white smoke pouring from the exhuast. I think the throttle body is leaking but not sure where. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to bypass the throttle body and see what happens and report back.

If it's coming in at the T-body then it's your FITV, which is bolted to the bottom of your T-body. I'd suggest bypassing the 2 hoses that go to the FITV temporarily so that no coolant is going the FITV. If that makes the symptoms go away, then remove the FITV & replace it. If that doesn't make the symptoms go away, try bypassing the IACV.

I bypassed the FITV and the white smoke is gone......so did I do the headgasket thing for no reason? O well, I had fun.

So do I need a new FITV now?

Block it off. I have not had one on my car since I've owned it. Never any problems.
