What would make a CEL come one one time and then go away?

 

i had that problem once, and it was my o2 sensor. The cel would come on all of the sudden and stay on....and then the next 50 times i started the car, it wouldnt...then all of the sudden, it would again. And it became more and more frequent until finally it just stayed on.
