Default Does a coolant leak cause a veichle to run hot???

Hi, i have a very small leak in a coolant hose.. It pisses out when it gets to around 195 deg.. then i can smell it in the car and it slowly starts to rise till it gets to about 205-210ish..

Could this leak be allowing air to get into the system causing it to run hotter then normal? I plan to fix the leak and see if i notice any differences.. But im just curious.

Thanks.

yes... fix the leak... problem should go away. coolant system needs to be pressurized in order to function correctly. when there's a leak/hole... it can't maintain the pressure and therefore can't maintain the temps.

depends how bad the leak is. if its puking, yet you are going to have issues. if its a few drops, shouldnt cause much problem at all.

ah it sprays out.. Its not quite that much, but its enough to make my tranny all wet, and to smell it inside the car, and i notice that it runs OK as far as temp wise (it was 40 deg celceus today) and then i can start to smell the coolant.. its still at 195deg when this happens. Then once i begin to smell.. It slowly rises very slowly, i cant believe i never noticed this coolant leak before! Maybe because the majority goes behind the backside of the tranny and its hard to see. I will fix tommorow.. Just got home from a nightshift very tired.

i had a leak on the lower hose..it wasnt fully on so it drips out
i never saw it but can smell the ****..
it drives,holds temps fine
but when i used a/c and hit a big dip/bump my temps skyrockets!

then i looked under the car one day when its warming up and cought it
now it works flawlessly

yeah i put a small hole in my bypass hose last week. car drove fine for like 30 miles on the highway. the minute i stopped at the gas station and let the car sit for a minute to let the turbo cool down... i heard the coolant spray everywhere. i poured some more coolant in... drove it home fine lol.

If the leak is big enough to cause a pressure drop them yes

Pressure drops, resulting in lower boiling points.
