Default Oil pump vs money...

Here's the deal. I have a d16z6 running great besides low oil pressure that I want to fix, but will replace in a few months. I also have a d16z6 w/hole in the block (obliterated rod) I got for free. The motor runs ~10psi lower oil than it should, and when goes down to 20psi, it imediately drops to just above zero. I would guess its the oil pump (bypass spring), but it could be a rod issue too.

I was wondering if the oil pump (off the dead motor) would be alright to reuse for a short-term fix. I don't want to spend $80+ on a pump that I'm not sure will fix it on a block I won't be using for much longer. This isn't cali where there's d16's everywhere - here salvage yards want $200+ for a shortblock, and private sellers aren't that easy to find.

I dont think I'd want to skimp 80 bucks for an oilpump when the resulting damage or low oil pressure will be in the thousands.

Honda oil pumps are either good or broken. It is possible to have pressure relief issues but they are pretty rare.It sounds like you have a bearing issue.I don't believe a pump will solve your problem.

Thats what I was thinking. Worst case scenerio, I'd have a bearing spin or freeze, giving me a paperweight w/ or w/o a hole in the side & a head that needs the 150k+ valves replaced, or taken from one of the 2 spare vtec heads I have.

I think I'll just try to get the block I'm looking at, get the other civic moving, then build this block. As much as I hate to run things till they break, I hate being stranded while waiting for AAA even more.
