Default front end noise on 04 crv

i have noticed that when making a turn into a parking space or other tight areas i here a strange sound like a flat tire would make. i have checked everything in front end i could think of including tire pressure. anyone else have this problem or any ideas of something i may have missed?

so like a flapping sound? It could be the tire rubbing the wheel well or it could be bad rear diff fluid.

no more like a rubbing sound, sort of like a tire with low pressure more than a flat tire. i should have explained better, sorry.

you need to change your rear differential fluid with fresh Honda Dual Pump fluid.

i'm not doubting you but how can the noise in the front be caused by the rear differential?

because the noise carries through the drive shaft and resonates from the transmission. The rear differential is supported by rubber mounts so the noise is not easily carried to the rear section.
It should be done about every 30k miles so doing that isn't going to hurt either way. But i'm 95% sure that's what it is.
And i work on them every day

thanks for the info, i will change it this weekend. just one more quick question, is it simply draining the fluid and refilling, or should it be flushed at a dealership? thanks again for your help

drain and fill. you will need to pick up the fluid from the dealer and getting a small pump from a parts store will help immensely.

Hi, Our CRV also has this noise when turning tightly. I will try the Rear Diff Fluid. Was it difficult to do? Did you need the small pump? Also the "D" is flashing on the transmission indicator on the dashboard, did you have that too?

the light on mine was not flashing that usally indicates an internal trans problem, but as far as the fluid change it was very easy. there are two bolts that use a 3/8 inch ratchet to get off, they are on the drivers side of the diff. the bottom drains the fluid and the top is the filler. i did need a pump to put the fluid back in because of its location. the one i bought was from autozone it looks like a grease gun i put the hose in the quart of fluid sucked it up and put it in the rear diff. when it is full it will start running back out of the filler hole. and as noted use only the honda dual pump fluid. you will only need one quart and it runs around $12 a quart. i was also told by the parts manager that it could take two times to get it to stop, luckily it onlt took one time for me. good luck and if you need anything else let me know
