Got an offer on car but want opinions.
Im just wondering everybody's opinion on if I should sell or not. Here is the specs on the car car.
2001 ITR
approx. 160k on car and approx. 70k on motor and approx. 100k on tranny
runs great (change oil 3k miles with mobil 1 synthetic)
Needs some bodywork
No suspension work or replacement except 1 axle.
There is a very slight steering wheel vibration which I can't find the cause for. Its not bad its just a little annoying on the interstate.
Mods: (I know they don't add value but here goes)
JDM SRS steering wheel
Spoon gauge cluster
Spoon shift ****
S2000 Push button start
Spoon valve cover
Spoon carbon Kevlar plug wire cover
Comptech intake
Comptech axle back exhaust
Honda badges on rear
Honda gunmetal center caps.
Eibach Pro-kit springs
Bilstein shocks
Here's the kicker. I don't have any of the stock parts anymore so all that is going with the car. I have always thought I would keep the car forever and that I didn't think I would need the stock parts. I've learned never say forever.
Anyway, so this guy is sort of a friend of mine. He is an alright guy but we are not good friends or anything. Just hang every once in a while. He has wanted my car for a couple of years. I like the car alot. I've had it for 4yrs. I still owe about 6500 on the car. Im jobless and having no $512 car payment would help alot. This is my only expense besides my cell phone. I use the car for daily driving only and I have no garage. (2 big ITR owner no no's I know
) Now I have gotten an estimate on the bodywork from Caliber Collision in Ft. Worth and said it would cost around $3500 which I don't have to put into it.
The guy asked me last night how much and just brushing it off I said 12k cause that's the price I've had in mind for a while if I was ever going to sell it. Without hesitation he said yes and I know he can get the cash. So I know its already a go but all I have to do is agree. btw I saw him an hour ago and the first thing he asked was if I was going to sell it. Then he asked if he was going to have to wave the 12k in my face for me to say yes. Now the only reason why Im entertaining the idea of selling it is because I really want a daily driver that is payed off so I can move on in life and finally getting out of my grandparents house. One thing I wont be able to do with a $512 car payment. The idea of refinancing has crossed my mind but I really don't want to stretch it out for longer than I have to.
So my question is giving the info do you think its a good price? Ok here is pics of the car to get a feel for what it looks like. Most of the dents are little but there is a big one in the driver side 1/4 panel. That dent plus a new bumper, hood, and slight rad support alignment is needed. Plus paint for those areas of course which constitutes the price for bodywork to get it straight.

vibration on the interstate is most likely warped rims, or the tires are poorly balanced, or worn out tie rods. try wiggling your tires up and down while its on a jack to see if there's any play. Try getting your tires balanced, might fix the prob too

+1 for yes.
Seriously though thanks. This is really tearing me up. I've been bouncing back and forth for a year now.

okay...160k on the car, 70k on the motor, 100k on the tranny for $12k?
you should've called it little higher to see how your "friend" would have reacted...and go down from there. but what's done is done.
if i didn't have a garage, no beater, and was jobless with $500+ car payment....i would sell it for that price, especially the fact that you have pretty big damage on the body.
i know you will miss the R a lot, but when you are financially more stable, you can always buy better condition R with little more $. that's what i did.

Thanks for the input.
He wants it pretty bad and he kind of has more money than sense so maybe I can talk him up to 14k.

You should sell it if it frees up stress in your life. Oh, and absolutely buy a stock ITR cluster, sell the Spoon one, and make an extra $500+ out of the whole thing.
Tell him you got the car appraised (that's what we do here right?
) and then tell him you want 14k as it sits. See what his reaction is then. If he still wants it at 14k, and you really want out of a payment I say go for it. It is still just a car and not worth going severly into debt for.

If it were me in your situation then i'd sell it to him. Did you say to him that you were selling it as it is right now? If not tell him that the price was for the car returned to stock but for $14k you'll leave all the parts on it. If he has more money than sense then BS him that he would probably spend at least $2k on mods for it if he were to buy it stock so your saving him the time and bother of getting them fitted, but defnitely sell it. Once you get your self sorted you can always buy another one (one which has perfect body work!)

Taking into account the body damage and the high mileage - yes, absolutely. Take the money and run!

I completely agree. I think 14k is way too much for a car that needs 3500 in body work. You are looking at 17500 if that car didn't need the body work then. Way too high for the type of mileage. 12k seems more fair, even though it is an RRR

BTW, not to go off topic, but was your S2000 engine start button difficult to install?

Now that I know that the price is about average for what it is I just have to decide if selling it is going to tear me up too much.
The guy is a nice guy so he says I can come visit and drive it every once in a while. He makes pretty good money so Im kind of looking forward to the work he will do to it. He already has a shop waiting to work on it. He already has plans to fix the bodywork and do a HID jdm front end conversion.
i'll give you stock parts + cash to trade for your intake, cluster, steering wheel, or anything else you want to get rid of.
for $12k you should sell it, but get it as close to stock as possible first and make more money on the car that way.

You can probably get more then 12k on ebay.
I wouldn't settle for less then 14k as is. Remember, you can always get another ITR later in life.

i think you should man. That is a good chunk of money to walk away with and you can always buy another R for a lot less than $500 a month..
oh yeah, and you should trade me your icebox for my intake...
