*Confused* how do i gauge the rocker arm clearense
i got an 89 prelude and im lost in gapping the rocker arm clearense. ive done it befor on soch heads but this one is wack. the space between the valves is partially covered by the rocker arm itself.am i supposed to gap it between the rocker arm and the camshaft? i tried that but the raocker arm knocks too much when i try the wiggle test on it
please help me out. its a b20 btw fi

You just have to slide the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and the cam lobe. You may need to bend the gauge or come in from the back or something, but there has to be a way...
when i wiggle the arms after i adjusted the clearence with the feeler , they feel kinda too loose. is that normal or do i have f'd up something
They should wiggle a bit...just double check that the clearances are good with the feeler gauge and leave it at that.
When you do the valve adjustment the rocker is not contacting the cam, so some play is normal. When the cam rotates and pushes on the rocker is when then there will be no play...

x2. When the point on the lobe is facing up, you should be able to slide a .10mm gauge in between the rocker arm and the cam lobe

thanks for the help guys. one more question though, wouldnt i get a slight kncoking sound in my cams if it feels loose and how do i get rid of it. (i checked and its not the rods knocking or anything, its somewhere in the valve cover
Generally you'd get that sound from the valve clearance being out of spec, but it will also make it when the car is cold. Other then that, there will always be a light tick just because the engine is running

If valve clearance is good and the ticking is still really bad and it's bothering you, see if there's any wear on the cam lobes and rocker arms...

the car saw misfirig a bit befor and all the sensors came out ok. i ckecked the specs and cyl 1 was the only one with the rght gap and was the only spark plug with the best condition. all the others had less than .002 clearence on them. i started the car and voila....works like a charm and the clicking is minimal. i guess when there is too much pressre against the lobe, it causes clicking too. thank you for all your elp and for helping me fix my ride
