i installed zex kit on my ITR, works ok... need some info
hey all, i just installed the zex kit on my ITR, with the 55hp jets. I installed the nozzle just after the stock filter, so its about 12-14" away from the throttle body.
I filled the bottle, its reading 680psi, its a bit cold here today. I sprayed in 2nd and 3rd, and the car feels faster, but I don't really feel like a sudden boost/turbo feeling fast and the furious thing which i was expecting, but it seems pretty smooth, besides, i want to keep the system safe and the engine seemed to run top shape during the spray. All in all, *i think* i installed the system correctly, the zex box/unit is connected to the TPS which activates at about 90% full throttle .... and it does spray, i checked the nozzle after i sprayed, and it was cold/frosty, there seems to be no leaks anywhere.
anyway... i am pretty happy so far...
now, i can harrass my neighbours M3

I've been toying with the idea of doing the same thing, but there's too many horror stories. I was thinking 75 shot though. I think you'll be just fine as long as you stick with the 55 shot. I know you won't with the tone of your post, but I urge you no matter what to stick with the 55 shot. How much did the setup cost? [Modified by 01PYTypeR#1140, 12:57 PM 4/21/2002]
with a full bottle shouldent the pressure be over 900psi?
and from what i hear the zex kit 55 shot is not really 55hp increase it's a little less........but that could be a good thing in keeping your engine from blowing up!

Get a bottle warmer. That pressure needs to be closer to 1000 - 1100 PSI for best performance. Get a warmer and then come back and tell me the difference.
900 PSI is where the bottle should be anymore the bottle could blow, any less and you dont' have the pressure to shoot enough nitrous into the fuel air mixture so you only get around half the boost you should be getting.
jo0 shoulda got nawwwwssssssss! Just kidding, the Zex system appears to be pretty advanced. If I bought nitrous, thats what I would get.
Stock Type R rings won't hold a heavy shot of nos and any mistakes. So start off small and work your way up. If I was to put nos on my car it would have been zex too.

Not true!! You risk implosion at around 1500 - 1800 PSI ( A result of leaving a bottle warmer on permanently)
A happy medium would be to try and get the pressure to somwhere around 1000 PSI for best performance!

I put the ZEX kit (55 shot) on an '01 Prelude, perfect install. Motor was gone in about 3 months. Don't know why...maybe he used it too often, maybe this, maybe that. We put in the zex spark plugs too. Didn't retard the timing, as the instructions recommended this for the higher shots. Followed the instructions, word for word. He now has a completely new engine (head and block) in his lude.
Not saying you will have the same problem, just be careful.

a bottle warmer is a must....it's the only way

implosion huh.... that's a new one to me...

I have had the zex kit on the car now for over a year!!!! And have had no problems with the 75 shot!!! With intake, header, and exhaust I ran a 13.2 @ 105mph........ As long as you take car of the timing and maybe get a high flow fuel pump you will be fine........Just did a compression check last month and it was all good.......
implosion isn't possible with pressure..................

Think of what happens when a submarine goes too deep
Well, to answer some questions....
ok, my bottle pressure was pretty low ... around 680 even though it was full, cause it was not one of our hottest days... and the bottle was in my garage, so it was stored at less than normal room temp, and no, i do not have a bottle warmer.
as for set up cost, i did the install myself, which was "fun" since i make paper clips for a living...., so it took me a few hours, i spent more time looking for tools, finding bolts and clips that i kept dropping in the engine bay..etc..etc... all in all, i did a clean job
One thing that i am going to add, is a on/off valve on the nitrous stainless steel/teflon line. Since i passed the nitrous line inside the car, i don't like to have the system armed, with nitrous pressure in the line up to the managmenet unit. So i am having the line fitted with a on/off valve that will be in arms reach inside the car. So basically, with the bottle valve open, i will have nitrous pressure up to the newly installed valve, and then, should i need the nitrous, i can simply turn the valve on/off. Also, if should the zex box fail, and keep spraying nitrous for no apparent reason, i will be able to turn off the pressure from inside my car.
I know i could buy a remote bottle opener, but i am not to crazy about that item, i prefer to open and close a valve, so i know for sure that the system is on or off.
anyway, i am going to try a few more runs with the bottle pressure at 900 to 1000psi, and see what happens.
anyway, i just called zex, no fear about bottles blowing up or whatever, the bottle is good up to 3000psi, then the safety release kicks in, but its very rare that should happen....

Ask Pinhead, he ran a direct port 10 shot on his ITR. went 12.89@110, it was damn fast!! Didnt ever blow it up, but he did take it off to go all motor...
you are suppose to plumb the nitrous nozzle 6" away from the TB or where it bends.
i know this coz i have installed many N20 kit myself...ran it for a long time also...very safe and easy power---just sucks to refill ($4.50/lb).
You should run NGK-R BKR7E-11 plugs also. and if possible run MSD ignition---6A is good enough with blaster.
once you plummed it within the bent of the intake or 6" away....tell me whats up...you should FEEL ALOT OF pull!
trust me..it didnt take much to have my G2 integra with B16 to run consistant 13s! (full interior and blow shocks)

Yes, sgT is correct....no, you can't explode your bottle unless it's over 3000psi and unless you plan on dousing your car in gasoline and burning it to the ground, that pressure will never be achieved. I never ran a bottle warmer on my bottle, but still achieved pressure readings above 680 psi, but then again, I'm in Florida, so get a bottle warmer and spend the few extra bucks and get an Nx one, it's worth it. If not, the NOS one works fine. I've never been a fan of the ZEX kit, but I did use it on my hatchback for about a year. Just to put things in comparision.....my car gained 40 whp off a 65 shot zex(dry)....on the NOS (wet) kit, it gained 54 whp on the 50 shot and 60 whp on the 70 shot. Wet is more efficient. Good luck and change your plugs often or else you'll end up like me.
