my tranny makes a crunching noise everytime i throw it into 3rd when im drivin it hard. the previous owner said they installed a new gsr tranny about 8k miles ago. any ideas of what the problem could be?

 

change your tranny fluid to GM synchromesh tranny fluid and see if that "crunching" noise is gone. My 3rd gear use to crunch in and grind and the GM synchromesh stopped the noise and my gears go in smooth like a butter...i can even go into reverse with my pinky.

^ IMO from what i experienced with the tranny fluid change.

yup GM you know the GM dealer. Corvette, tahoe, etc

 

your tranny is done. thats what happened to me. i bone out and right when i shift to 3 rd gear it always has that one sound. i install a new tranny and it never happened again.

 

how many miles did u have on it?

 

crunching noise like a grind? Try doin gm fluid like that other guy said, if that doesnt work mayb it is the mastery cylinder or slave cylinder for ur clutch

 

but its only for the 3rd gear, and its only when i drive it hard. im changin the fluid tomorrow to see wat that does. if it doesnt fix it then, am i pretty much lookin at buyin a new tranny????

how quarts do i need??? the car didnt come with an owners manual.
