Default Exhaust Spring Bolts

I just finished installing my hks sport exhaust and during the install I removed the cat and installed new spring bolts between the cat and the exhaust manifold. There are no exhaust leaks or anything, but when I shift sometimes I hear a squeak and I think it is the spring bolts. The nut on the end of the spring bolt didn't seem to be tight until the spring was fully compressed. So my question is can I loosen the bolt and not have to worry about my exhaust falling off down the line? BTW these are the advance auto spring bolts.

Matters how much you loosen. I think it might be alright, if not too loose, since the spring applies pressure to the nut and bolt.

Yeah good point, I will just loosen them up a little and check on them in a week to see if they are still in the same position

i think you want it to be as tight as possible w/o leaking. i've always tightend them completely and never had any problems

Do you have the rounded flange gasket on your header? It looks like a sliced bagel made of fibrous metal.

I ask because not having one will make that connection point squeak.

Yes I made sure to put one on, it isnt sitting flush (very small gap) between the exhaust manifold and cat though, should it? I dont have a leak but man that slight squeak annoys me.

Well I looked at my exhaust more closely today and realized the squeak wasnt coming from the front but rather the rear. Turns out the heat shield near the gas tank was just rubbing a bit on the piping. So all is fixed
