Need help with my Cluster?
okay i picked up this civic and the stupid *** kid that i purchased it from thought he was a pro....electrician/moron? well he had wiring everywhere he tried putting an alarm =that failed +more wires everywhere, He tried putting a tach= Failed/more wires, and now i took every extra wire that was in there out it was all over the place! well NOW on my cluster...oh yeah i had to change the clustter to a DX one cuz the Si one was FUCKED up like no other! on my cluster the temp gage dont work and my gas seems to work kinda, well anyways my SPEEDOMETER dont work or RPM's when the Si one was on? What could this be? anyone have any diagrams of any thing that can fix my problems what should i do? HELP?
im a little confused, what engine is it? some engines have cable driven speedometer and some have electric, and i know dx is cable driven and i think si is electric, i am pretty sure you have to get the right guage for the right type of speedo clip, im not sure why the temp gauge or gas isnt working, maybe the gas sensor is out, i heard ethanol gas can give you this type of result... and maybe you need a new thermistat for the temp guage?
Whenever I get a car, I always remove any non-oem wiring. It's very easy to do, and usually cures any problems.
Disconnect the battery, get some wire cutters and tape and carefully cut the aftermarket crap out. Tape over where the wires were spliced. Put the stock cluster back in.
Doing this, it will remove the possibilities of all the extra crap interfering (sp?) with the oem stuff.
It is much easier to troubleshoot oem wiring instead of aftermarket.
When done, check all the fuses and reset your ECU.
