I'm not the only one............. right?
So I'm messing around with the race car, playing with the TPS.
Go out for a quick run up the freeway to see if all is good...... when wham!
My dumbass forgot to put the hoodpins in and there goes cherry Carbon hood and brand new windshield.
My buddy had it happen, said it'll only happen once. Oh well, who needed that 700 bucks anyway.
Just thought you all would get a good laugh. I'm still trying to get over myself. I make fun of people like me.

I've been lucky like three times with not securing my hood and going out on track for a lap or two. Hasn't popped up on me yet, but I'm sure more willing to unbuckle myself and get out to doublecheck while in the pits now...

LOL, I can say the 2 times ive neglected to have my hood fully shut, and realize it AFTER parking, ive been lucky.
I always wondered why it happened to people, the second latch mechanism seems to be enough to keep it down.
Is there something im missing?

I've seen that happen to a number of people at the track, however, I've always been good about double checking mine. I have, however, gone out on loose lugnuts. That also is something that you only do once (hopefully).

I went on loose lugnuts on the street once, however, was not by my choice or err.
Someone apparantly 1. Had it out for me or 2. Wanted my 14" Honda Alloys more then me!
At any rate, thats one sound/feel youll recognize anywhere, and be paranoid about for a LONG time to come when you hear any noise, or get on a road thats not perfect.

I'm sticking with stock hood latch..

I did that once... I even said in the pits I should check them before I go out.

On the topic of loose lugs, anyone with those semi-junky Kyoukin or whatever lugnuts that are offered as a set with a lot of aftermarket wheels (Or maybe it's Moteki or something...?), ditch them for track use, they do NOT hold torque. I could only go for 10 minutes or so before they'd loosen up, and that was tested repeatedly with different wheels.
Guess that makes me double-dumb, having lost a wheel AND had the hood come up. The hood event happened when I was at the local autoparts shop, running out to check what size whatever I needed, and running back in to get it...
There's that brief moment, that single-frame in time when the hood starts to rise, and your brain has that brilliant flash of insight about what happened - and what's going to happen. Crap!

Even the most ratical honda turned into a race car can be driven on the street. At least the road race ones. It's not good for a lot of them, maybe not legal, but still possible.

I'm curious why you would remove the stock hood latch mechanism? When I first installed my FI hood it came loose during normal driving, but the stock mechanism saved it from flying off and I was able to pull over and push it back down. Now I have the pins with the stock latch and haven't had any issues
If you have the stock latch on a CF hood then I can't see how you could possibly miss the fact that your hood isn't latched.
Stinks you found out the hard way.
Only major st00pid thing I did, and nothing actually happened other than scaring the crap out of me, was starting the car up with the wratchet still on the crank pulley

Just using hood pins gives safety workers the ability to open your hood in case of an emergency.

Reason number 2. So closing your hood is less of a bitch because the B18C stuffed in the CRX rubs the hood. Off to Barber in the morning for the Chin Motorsports DE. Wheee! They have a pretty impressive line up of expensive cars (except mine).

We are talking about legality here. Most real race cars are not street legal...Even hondas.
Some of us do drive our cars to the track tho, it just makes the morning much longer when stripping all the street-legal parts off the car.

Most real race cars are not street legal... in CA
it is not difficult to build a street legal, competitive, race car in places such as MI where you don't have CARB to deal with
also, not to make this a RR vs SOLO post, but most AutoX cars and all rally cars are street legal and registered, that likely puts non-street legal race cars in the minority.

My father was running a few events for the dodge rally team with douggie in the SRT-4 and at one event one of the crew members forgot to latch the hood pins - took off for the first stage of the day and up comes the hood, mangling the (metal) hood and breaking the windshield. they flattened it down enough to run the morning stages, and when they got abck for lunch they had a window and hood off someone's street car ready and waiting.
