What would you do to a 96 LS coupe if......
The car is stock and you can only choose between the options below-
1) Add a B16 trans with LSD, Good clutch\flywheel combo, traction bars, and race motormounts
OR
2) A COMPLETELY bone stock B18C1 swap(everything is STOCK)
For me, I am doing #1 as it will benefit something I will be doing later, but it got me thinking, overall which would make the car quicker, if you could only choose 1 of the options above?
Lets here what you would do and reasoning behind your choice.

Curiosity as to what others would do.
I personally think option 1 would make for a quicker car, as I have driven an LS with a B18C1 swap and it honostly wasnt much quicker than when it was a B18B1 with boltons. I have not however driven an LS with a B16 trans, but from the info I have been reading, it makes for a very good improvement.

it does make a good improvement...but a gsr is a better platform to work with...put that same transmission on a stock gsr..and its now well into the 14's consistently...also the power delivery of the b18c is decieving...it felt weaker than my b18b but it wasnt...up top it had more getup and go...but naturally the butt dyno cant detect such things...you usually feel the down low stuff on the butt dyno

Well, the B16 trans will be mounted to an H22 soon enough(this being the plans for the future mentioned in first post), its just going to be mounted to the B18B1 for now.
So whether the B18B1 or the B18C1 are the better option with the B16 trans is no concern to me, nor was it the question asked(not trying to be a dick, but it wasnt the question).
2 questions were asked, which option would YOU choose, and which does everyone think would be quicker, between just the 2 options in the first post.

Where exactly did I say I was getting a GSR?
Is anybody even reading this before posting?

I didnt ask what "platform" was better to mount the B16 transmission too.
If I had aske which motor responds better to the B16 trans, that answer would have been fine, but thats not what I asked.
Lets see if I can make it more clear, this is not a "What should I do" thread.
Lane #1 has a 96 LS with a B16 trans W LSD, Stage 3 clutch\aluminum flywheel, traction bars, and race uerothane mounts. All else is stock.
Lane #2 has a 96 LS with a bone stock B18C1 swap(B18C trans no LSD, clutch\flywheel , mounts ALL stock) rest of car is stock as the LS in lane # 1.
Which lane is quicker and which would you choose?
There is NO OTHER options.
I thought this would make for an interesting discussion, but so far its just frustrating the hell outta me.

I think it depends on your timeline, I wouldn't want an LS with a B16 tranny for a year when I can have a GSR swap next week. You can always swap out the GSR tranny with a B16 when you do the H2B.
i think i would go with the gsr, because it has more potential the trans isnt that bad and it has vtec, but then again my opinion is my opinion
what type of prices are we looking at here? it seems like option #1 would be considerable cheaper and still be a quick car. Does anybody know what a stock LS with a b16 tranny runs? I was considering buying a new tranny for my LS and was looking at the b16 tranny option. I know i ran a 16.7 in my completely stock LS, but that was my first time ever going to the track and i had only owned the car for like 2 weeks, so im sure i could get it into the low 16s now. What would a stock GSR run?

b18c1 still owns.....
even if the ls engine was in a 1988 civic hatch

well i think it would be about the same cause b16 trans it would be geared lower and u would have a top speed of about 125 but it would be good 1/4 times and a strong motor.... and on the other hand gsr would have a good pull and have a little higher top speed but my friend has ls motor and b16 trans and its pretty quick....

who the expletive lied to you??? to answer your question i ran a best of 14.9 at 93 mph with a b16 tranny on my ls...when it was running properly i beat my fair share of bolt on gsr's
and for the OP: those setups would be close..it depends..ive seen it go either way sometimes depending on the health of the two motors..

thanks memphizstylez,
and, ghostrider, i wasnt asking whether or not the gsr would beat the ls w/b16 trans.. i was asking what the ls would run.
but, im suprised the b16 tranny made that much of a difference! how bad is my time compared to what a stock LS should run? I definitly need to work on my 60 foot time.

a stock ls should be able to hit a 15.8...ive seen some hit a 15.6...but most are like 15.8...16.7 is definately not very good...you need to work on that..

I've seen worse. First time I went to the track I ran a 17.3 @ 85. 3.0 60' ftl. Although, I did stall the car right after the line...thats what happens when I run with a clutch that barely catches :D
edit: car was stock on 17s wrapped in bald yoko's
