Default hi-flow cat

hey guys i went to muffler tech today looking for a hi flow catalytic converter. but the guy said the my car already has one. then i asked if i can put a test pipe on it and he said the they were garbage. idk so im asking u guy does does my car have a hi flow cat on it already. and do test pipes do anything. does it make my car sound really annoying? im guessing it will throw a CEL with the test pipe. i have a 96 prelude SI by the way.

how could we know if you have a high flow cat? do you have a pic or something we can look at? if your car is pretty much stock then you probably don't have a high flow cat, but the best way to find out is to jack up your car, crawl under there, and take a look for yourself. see if there is a genuine honda logo, or some other brand name on it. and you will not benefit that much from a test pipe if all you have is basic bolt on stuff. and yes, you will also throw a CEL with a test pipe.

sucks, you have probably the worst 4th gen to get, 96 because of the obd2

anyways, i have a random technology high flow cat. great cat and with basic stuff, i believe it has the same flow as test pipes.

No cat throws a CEL code ?? How? the O2 sensors are upstream from the cat.

If you have a stock exhaust system, you don't have a hi-flow cat. The only thing different about a hi-flow cat is that the inlet and outlet pipes are larger in diameter in order to match the larger after-market exhaust system pipes.

the whole thing is bigger in diameter.

and a test pipe throws a CEL on OBDII ecu's because the readings change drastically and the ECU catches it.

yeah get a gay *** test pipe and pollute the air it's so jdm to do that!!!

who cares if a good high flow cat flows just about as well as a test pipe and doesn't cause a massive increase in the amount of poisonous gasses being released into the air your friends, neighbors and family breath! you'll run 12's at the strip!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm glad i have a high flow now

my trunk doesn't smell like exhaust fumes, and i don't have to worry about passing emissions illegally

let's analyze this situation for second.

flow vs. flow, the test pipe only marginally outperforms a HF cat.

emissions vs. emissions, the test pipe dumps a hell of a lot more pollutants into the air you breath, and makes your car sound like ****.

result vs. result, on a bolt on prelude i'd be surprised if there was a 2 whp difference between a HF and a test pipe.

so tell why running a test pipe is "cool" again?
