Default I know, I know, REPOST. Tires.

What type of tires are good??

Im looking aroud tirerack.com, and Im seeing some pretty good tires for fairly cheap.

Some Kumho ecsta's for less than 70 bucks, The fuzion ZRi's for less than 80.

What size will be best with a EM2 16" rota GT3, stock RH, soon to be dropped to 1.5" lower than stock?

Suggestions???

sup man. tirerack is cool. but go here. http://edgeracing.com/tires/2055516/ prices seem better. you can't go wrong with the falken ze512's. their pretty popular and im sure many people can vouche these for daily driving and some spirited driving. i would prefer 205/55/16. their cheaper than the 50's and the tire/rim combo wont look too small.

Ziexs are good, probably the best all-seasons you can find.

*Cringe*

The Ziex's don't do anything well IMO.

What are you looking to do with the tires, and you need all season or summer only? What's your price range?

Fuzion's aren't that great either. As for the Kumho--depends upon which one you are looking at.

The Yokohama ES100's will rock any tire mentioned above.

But, If you want even more grip, look at the Hankook Z212 or the Azenis, of course. Just not sure the Azenis comes in a 16" you can use. The Z212 comes in a 225/45/16 though, and that should be about perfect.

The Kumho MX is a decent tire, but for the money get the Z212 instead.

If I were really after the cheapest tire that performs ok, The Kumho 711 is a good tire (not the 712--that tire sucks).

Will a 205/40/16 work on a stock RH, AND a car dropped 1.5" without any problems?

No, that tire is way too short.

Go here:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

stock is 195/60/15. Perfect +1 is 205/50/16. I'd shoot for that size, or the wider 225/45/16.

205/50/16 works the best, because it only makes the speedo .6% off.

I think my choice has been made!! You rock Todd!

My sister just picked up some Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's (on my persuasion) for $88 a piece ($320 w/ shipping to Wisconsin) from Tire Rack. They are by far the best tires I've used (I've had them before). She got 215/45/17's.

Tires I've been happy with:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's (**for the money, but they are way noisier than most**)
Falken Azenis'
Yokohama Advan A048's (**better for track**)
Yokohama AVS ES100's
BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW2's
Bridgeston Potenza RE010's

Tires I've disliked (excuses in parenthesis):
Pirelli P-Zero Nero MS's (noisy, terrible lifespan, horrible rain performance)
Kumho Ecsta Supra 711's (noisy, chunked terribly, no lifespan under pressure)

I'm confused as to why this thread was revived after 5 months. Red doesn't even have that car anymore, and who cares if someone changes their mind on something, that's life.

It's quite possible. If the nail is in the sidewall, the tire is not supposed to be fixed, because it's supporting the weight of the car directly, versus the tread itself holding weight indirectly. Now if the nail is on the tread, it could've punctured a steel belt (if the tire has them), and that's not supposed to be repaired either, but if not.. then it's a line of poo.
