My '94 Del Sol S, Manual 5sp, died while I was out of the car at a cash machine. It literally just died and won't start.

1. I inserted a jumper and tried to get any diagnostic codes, but no codes are displayed. The check engine light does not blink at all! Ok, no fault codes...

2. I checked all fuses to make sure they were all good. Yep! No burned fuses.

3. I knew the fuel pump was having problems, so I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. Still no start.

4. Checked for spark. No spark... Checked plugs - Normal. Checked plug wires - normal. Checked distributor cap - normal. Replaced Rotor as general maintenance.

5. Checked Ignition Coil - Failed, resistances off - replaced Coil.

6. Checked Igniter - Failed continuity tests. Replaced.

Still won't start, still no spark. What should I check now? I am getting no fault codes. I have replaced rotor, ignition coil, igniter, fuel pump and fuel filter and don't know what else to test. The two manuals I have don't seem to provide any guidance of what to check now... Does anyone have any ideas?

How many miles? It could be the dizzy, or the gears beneith it.

 

Around 104k miles. Been a reliable car till now...

 

is your rotor spinning when cranking with the cap off?
If not you may have a broken cam/timing belt

switch or button behind clutch Is plastic and of course worn down wasn't making contact when starting car. MY 94 DEL SOL Si had power to fuel pump headlights anything electical.. however could not get the car to turn over. NOTHING. thought next to check ignition. Took that apart, all checked out for ig itinerary. Next thing my mechanic while putting Ignition under carriage together checked out button behind clutch and found itnot making contact. Was hard to reach so he dropped the bolt letting clutch peddle swing free and was able to get in behind peddle and screw the button like 3 turns moving it out. Car starts immediately like brand new. Simple fix. Who would have thought?
