Highway Gas Mileage?
What kind of mileage are you guys getting on your ITR's on the highway?
I was pleasantly surprised lately, even with the AC on i've been getting 28-29 MPG consistently.

Why do you say that?
I was getting about the same in my stock ITR.

Also, what is your typical freeway cruising speed & rpm. I try to stick to 70mph & that puts the revs at 3600 (205/40/16 tire on an EG hatch). It's a new swap, but my first tank seems to be at about 28mpg w/ combined driving & on a Kenji tuned ECU (stock JDM motor)...

No, basically stock ITR, mods are Toda Header, Carsound Cat, and VAFC with the fuel settings untouched, just lowered the VTEC point to make the Toda header happier.

I generally cruise @ 80, stock ITR gearing, not sure offhand what that puts me at RPM wise offhand.

I got 29 mpg on the way back from Expo 4 (doing 100 mph).
I don't think I can get that with the C's now.
O well

if you get high mph per highway driving, you must factor in startups like cold start, also if you take long time to warm up the car and just overall idling while your car isn't moving.
why my average mpg is 21-23 highway driving or not.
there are few variables to this
to make accurate note of mpg, you have to
1. assume that your tank fills up to same level everytime you measure mpg
2. fill up the tank completely and set tripometer
3. drive around
4. fill up again, then divide milage driven by amount of fuel you just added
variables are
how often are you at wot vs partial throttle vs closed loop
how clean/new are your emmisions components (air filter/spark plugs etc)
how much time you spend idling the car and cold starts.

I dont understand the difference between the idling and the cold start, can someone explain how you can get more mpg from that. Also, crusing at 65 mph the cars at about ~3500 rpm, those that sound right, is that where everyone else is?

Idling & warm-up are two separate things that will both reduce your mpg. Obviously idling reduces mpg because your just sitting there with the motor running. Warm ups reduce mpg because the ECU runs the motor really rich to reduce thermal shock..
Yes 3500 @ 65 sounds right to me...

I can consistently get 31 mpg on the highway without any special effort and have never recorded under 26mpg in the city.
I've also achieved a 32mpg average on a trip from Mobile, AL to Virginia Tech University and back.
Best hwy mpg ever is 34mpg but that could easily be attributed to the tank filling up excessively or some other oddity.

75 mph @ 4000 RPM.

There's highway, and there's highway.
I get 26-28 when I'm in mostly suburban highway driving.
On a long distance trip, I can get 30+ and 32 is sometimes possible. But those are occasions where I fill the car, drive 300 miles at 75 mph without stopping, and then fill it up again.
Also note that anyone using 195/50-15 will get an extra 1 mpg from odometer error, and with 205/50 will get an extra 0.5 mpg. You'll also get an extra 0.7 mpg or so when your tires are worn down to the treadwear indicator bars, compared with when they were new, due to the difference in diameter.
