I have a 97 Honda civic DX. The other day a rattling noise started under the car towards the right middle of the car. You can hear it at low rpms and sometimes at idle. I think it might be a heat shield but can't see one under the car and someone said maybe a tranny problem but it drives fine. Anyone know if there is a heatshield and if so where its at. thanks for the help even though it is a stupid question

 

yes, there are heat shields under there and yes, they sometimes do rust out and cause rattling...

 

i just had this problem and a piece of my exhaust piping had fallen into the cat converter ....about a 2 inch wide piece

 

this past year.. in my auto calss.. i had to weld the principles heat shield back on cuz of the fact it did rust off.. so it could cuz rattling.
