in the 7 years that I have been driving, I have never been pulled over to the side of the road for anything. Not even a spot check.

With that said, my friend came over 2 am in the morning. Bored as we were on a friday night, we went out and drove around. I was spirited driving, but no way going nuts, and the roads were deserted...except the cops.

in the matter of 2 hours of driving around, I was eyed, and stared at by 9 cops. (friend kept count).

I finally was taking my friend home since it started to rain, we switched seats so i could drive again (I let him drive a little), and the light turned green before i got into the car, so i hop in, and my friend told me i had to make a left hand turn. It was wet on the floor. I had RE010's on. There was a railroad track we crossed. I was not going fast at all, and i lost traction on the rear two wheels, but made the turn and some screeching sound. The cop said i was on 2 wheels.... and then accused my friend of driving through a red light.

There was a cop right behind me who decided to pull me over. I explained the situation... no matter what I did or said. (FOP badge and all). I still got written a careless driving ticket. (2 points, $78 fee) I drive a yellow type R and it was late at night, around 3 am.

I am not saying I do not deserve the ticket as I am responsible for the way I drive, but ....

what do you guys think my chances are of going to court and pleading this down to a no point violation?

I beat one myself for a very similar situation. However, I do have a lawyer retained right now for another ticket.

Take the ******* to court, I get off almost all of my violations, if anything they reduce it to almost nothing. Just explain the situation to the judge, tell him it was raining, you didn't judge the turn properly and the back end swung out slightly. No one got hurt, no one would have got hurt. END OF STORY!

 

I guess the donut store was closed. Cops have nothing better to do than give dumb *** tickets

Faternal Order of Police (FOP). If you have the tag, it usually means that someone in the intermediate family is a police officer. Anyone can get the stickers and cops don't pay attention to them, just the tags.

I'm not sure if "careless driving" and "reckless driving" are the same - generally they arrest you for "reckless".

I had a similar experience and the cop was very beligerent about trying to fight it.

I take it you're 23-ish? You'll have a hard time getting the judge to even hear you contest it, in many cases.

The "justice" system is a joke. Take your medicine and think about all the times you drove like an @$$ and got away with it.

wtf are you talking about? they just want your money...in most cases you'll pay a fine and get no points.

Same here, I never heard of careless driving. Reckless driving, however, is a misdemeanor and you will be arrested, cuffed, and booked for such an offense.

Good luck. If you can pay the fine and lose the points by asking the judge nicely, just go with that. Fighting it can irritate a judge sometimes, and if this is a misdemeanor (eg reckless driving), expect to pick up trash wearing blue/orange shirt on one weekend on 101 or 280.
