anyone elses AC making a clunking noise at startup after the car has sat for a few days?

 

yea i've experienced this a couple times too.. i've always wondered what that was but i don't know if my ac was on or not when that happened..

 

sometimes it sounds downright violent.....sounds like ramming the car into gear without pushing the clutch down......the longer it sits...the more aggressive the grinding sound when i switchon the AC

 

I've had that happen a couple times also. Hopefully it's only because the car is new.

 

my si does it and so does my stepdads ex, it mainly does it if i dont have the ac turned on when i turn the car on.

I've been a mechanic for a few years and i've worked on a lot of vehicles with a/c and i've never heard a compressor make that much of a clunk when the clutch engages.

 

All new Hondas make that noise. It will go away eventually. I see it daily

 

Thats what i'm hopin, that it's just cause it's new.

 

my element does it too.....i just about crapped the first time i ever heard it!

 

It sort of a grinding/scraping? Ive noticed (not recently, like not in the past month) a few times when starting after the car has sat for 8hours+ It sounded like this scraping noise like you drag something along the pavement. It happened as the engine moved on the initial startup. it did this when the car had like 300 miles on it once.. then once like 1000 miles later
