Went to friend's shop. messed around. rate ugly welds :)
I went to a friend's shop and the are a full welding shop. They had a miller synchrowave sp? TIG machine so I asked if I could give her a try.
They are really bad in my opinion. First time attempting to tig. He gave me 5 minutes worth or pointers. I'm slowly understanding the "puddle" I got the thin stainless to get some color TWICE, and the rest I got impatient and started to burn through.
Anywho. here goes
First off was some THICK carbon. He said it wouldn't turn out "cool" so I just played around with getting the puddle.

Then I tried on some spare cuts of schedule 8/10 (can't remember) I can't weld straight for the life of me

Then I grabbed some thin stainless pieces I was trying to weld 90 degrees together.
This is the stuff that I started out looking "decent" then I just started burning through it....

More of the thin stainless that I got some cool colors out of. Then I was never able to reduplicate it.

Just thought I'd share my crappy welds. He said it wasn't bad for just playing around with the machine for about 45 minutes. I ended up using 3 filler rods. I think 1/16th
What does HT think?

well for someone who has never tig welded before i dont know how you can start off by giving the most popular wwelding machine a bad rating. Your welds look ok for a starter, far better than mine did. A welding machine doesnt make good welds, the person running the torch does.
holy ****, its blake ******* stiller.
hi blake. have fun at pacific? the express lanes were fun.
to the OP.. i came over cause you linked me from clubsi. i don't know a damn thing about welding. i can barely tack with a wirefeed.

Do you guys wire wheel the metal before welding? Then what do you clean it off with?
I'll go try again
I'll go try again
