Default Where does this coolant hose go to? On the thermostat housing!

Hey guys I have an OBD0 B16a. On the thermostat housing there is one barb (labeled in picture, on the left), that i dont know where it goes to?

Is it for the heater, engine, or what?

Reason is, somehow with the engine out it got accidentally plugged (with putty) and im trying to clean it out. Just wondering where it goes to. Ill try to get all the crap out of it but i am worried it may cause some overheating problems or something if it gets blocked or clogged. Let me know. Thanks!
